Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Electrical Engineer III for immediate employment in the Roanoke, VA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. This position is for a hybrid work environment 2 days at home and 3 days in the office.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Electrical Engineer III
- Under the direction of a Sr. Electrical Engineer, the successful candidate will perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- Create electrical installations in Revit.
- Create 2D and 3D Drawings using AutoCAD.
- Create electrical models in SKM to calculate arcflash, fault currents and voltage drop.
- Interpret and implement client standards into code compliant designs.
- Survey and evaluate existing conditions to formulate a fully coordinated scope of work within code compliant electrical designs.
- Exercise engineering judgment while developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
- Prepare engineering related calculations, develop drawings and specifications under the supervision of a Sr. Electrical Engineer.
- Assist with the electrical design of medium and low voltage power distribution, lighting, lightning protection, security, and other low voltage systems for DOD/Federal, Industrial, Commercial, Higher Education and High Rise, and Wastewater.
- Experience performing shop drawing reviews and answering contractor’s RFI.
- Work under supervision of a project manager or senior level team member.
- Highly motivated and independent self-starter.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Examples include MS Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Have the ability to travel, potentially 5%-15% of the time.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology and 4 years of experience in buildings and facilities engineering with specific experience in the design and power distribution
- Experience with the design of modifications to low voltage (480V and below) electrical power systems for commercial, government and institutional facilities including office tenant space, utilities and support facilities - This includes preparation of electrical system load analysis, short circuit analysis, arc flash studies, etc.
- AutoCAD and/or Revit experience
- Valid US Driver’s License, and as a condition of employment, pass AECOM's motor vehicle records review.
- Due to the nature of this work, US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the National Electric Code and other NFPA codes.
- Displayed ability to execute complete, accurate and coordinated project design assignments on time and within budget.
- Understands overall project constraints including design/construction budget limitations and schedule requirements.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with other team members and disciplines.
- Successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) and planning on taking the Professional Engineering exam.
- Experience in Federal DOD, industrial, commercial facilities, high rise buildings, or higher education design.
- Competent in all conventional aspects of Electrical engineering and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard Electrical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
- Knowledge of and experience with Department of Defense (DOD) requirements including Unified Facilities Criteria UFC.
- Knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as AGI, SKM, MS Office and AutoCAD).
