Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Process Engineer for employment in the Chelmsford, MA office. This Mechanical Process engineer position will involve a variety of new and renovations to existing water treatment facilities, water booster pump stations, and wastewater pumping and treatment facilities.
This position will be heavily focused on the detailed technical design associated with these facilities including:
- Pumps, piping, valves, etc.
- Headworks, screening, grit removal systems
- Aeration, filtration, separation, dewatering and clarification systems
- Odor control systems
- Chemical feed systems
- Disinfection
- Sludge and residual handling systems
- Work closely with project managers and design managers.
- Develop process flow diagrams and assist with the development of process & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Perform hydraulic calculations for pump sizing including total dynamic head and operating points, net positive suction head margin, suction specific speed and submergence.
- Research equipment and system design recommendations.
- Coordinate with equipment vendors on equipment selections and draft specifications.
- Develop technical specifications, equipment and piping plans, elevations, section and details.
- Perform engineering related calculations for process equipment sizing and selection.
- Verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices.
- Coordinate with other in-house engineering disciplines as needed.
- Review shop drawings of proposed equipment from the construction contractor.
- Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
- Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
- Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
- Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
- Identifies discrepancies in results.
- Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
- Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
- Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
- Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering and 6 years of experience in design and layout of mechanical process piping, valves, equipment, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer.
- 8+ years of experience in design and layout of mechanical process piping, valves, equipment, etc.
- Proficient with AutoCAD and REVIT.
- Experience in the water/wastewater industry.
- Ability to work with a diverse team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and technical, yet experienced enough to see the big picture.
- Experienced, self-directed professional.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
- Ability to meet quality, schedule and budget expectations.
- Ability to multi-task and be flexible and able to adapt to rapidly changing project requirements and deadlines.
- Ability to apply passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative and progressive team-oriented work environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
