Job Description

AECOM’s Water Business Line is seeking a creative and highly motivated Coastal Engineer to join our Water group in the Seattle, Washington office. This is a technical role working with other engineers and project managers in design, rehabilitation, and monitoring of coastal structures, conduct resiliency assessments, manage survey and data collection efforts, and develop technical tools to enhance project efficiency and standardization.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Generate conceptual layouts/designs and perform calculations/analyses for coastal structures including seawalls, revetments, groins, and living shorelines.
  • Conduct resiliency studies to assess the vulnerability of coastal structures to flooding, storm events, and sea level rise.
  • Perform statistical and spectral wave analyses, and conduct wind-wave calculations
  • Develop cost estimation, material calculation, and technical specifications
  • Prepare drafts of portions of technical proposals, reports, regulatory agency permits, as well as less complex external and internal documents.
  • Prepare project reports, engineering calculations and develop drawings and visual aid
  • Provide guidance to entry level engineers

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline +4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s OR PhD in Civil Engineering or related field of study
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) 
  • Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering concepts through coursework or work experience.
  • Experience with industry standard software (Matlab, etc.)
  • Experience with using Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS, etc.) and CAD platforms (Civil 3D, MicroStation, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams
