AECOM seeks a Principal, Aviation Architecture/Engineering for our Buildings + Places leadership team to drive the growth of professional design services related to Aviation.  Candidate will be an architect, engineer, or planner with similar credentials with subject matter expertise in the planning, design, and delivery of innovative aviation facilities. Candidate will nurture a multi-disciplinary team of architects, engineers, sustainability leaders, innovation + digital technologists, social scientists, and specialty sub-consultants across multiple offices, within a national and global community of experts committed to delivering efficient, equitable, and inspiring aviation facilities. Candidate will be a ‘seller-doer-leader’ responsible for cultivating client relationships, winning new work, executing exceptional project work, and growing AECOM’s portfolio of world-class aviation infrastructure projects. This position is supported by our regional operational and technical teams, reports to the US West Director of Growth and collaborates with the Global Head of Aviation Architecture + Engineering.

The Buildings + Places US West Regional Business Line is seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Principal, Aviation Architecture/Engineering to lead growth in the aviation architecture and engineering design practice.  The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and growing key client relationships in collaboration with AECOM’s specialist Global Aviation group, leading & winning major pursuits and acting the AECOM lead on major projects.  The Principal, Aviation Architecture/Engineering will be instrumental in the successful pursuit, development, implementation, and delivery of major aviation terminal programs within the US West Region.

Based in Los Angeles, Oakland, Orange or San Francisco, CA. the Principal, Aviation Architecture/Engineering will report to the US West Director of Growth and be a member of the Buildings + Places US West Team. This leader will work collaboratively across all AECOM business lines to support Aviation clients and AECOM growth. 

Major Responsibilities – Principal, Aviation Architecture/Engineering

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning, organizing, and implementing strategic business development activities for the B+P US West Region Airport Architecture & Engineering practice;
  • Contributing to the development of the regional strategic growth plan;
  • Working with AECOM’s Global Aviation team to develop key new and strengthen existing client relationships;
  • Initiate and maintain contacts with key officials of client agencies, organizations, and peer/partner companies;
  • Conducting business development to secure new projects. This includes identifying and tracking pursuits, leading go/no go decisions for key pursuits, participating in and/or leading proposals and giving presentations to potential clients;
  • Leading project pursuits, teams, and work;
  • Representing AECOM in local, regional, and national professional associations and conferences;
  • Providing thought leadership, internally and externally, on key programs and global initiatives;
  • Leading and coordinating US West Region Architects & Engineers as well as partner/sub-consultant design firms
  • Offer design creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving routine and unusual problems, articulating objectives, and requirements, organizing programs and project approaches, developing standards and guidelines, and implementing procedures and protocols
  • Identifying and sharing best practices regionally, nationally, and globally;
  • Leading and coordinating B+P Airport Architecture & Engineering resources regionally.
  • Establishing and sustaining relationships with key partners and consultants to support growth of the Aviation Architecture & Engineering practice;
  • Acting as Project Lead on strategic/key projects;
  • Exhibit skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues;
  • Exemplify passion for design excellence, authenticity, and trustworthiness.

 

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or similar, plus 10 years of experience in aviation projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
    • 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience in the aviation sector;
    • Experience in leading growth through sales, business development, and successful delivery of signature projects;
    • Proven ability to successfully develop strong client relationships and win work;
    • Ability to manage multiple projects of a complex scope.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 5 years of demonstrated leadership experience in the aviation sector;
    • Strong relationships with airport authorities;
    • Strong communication and leadership skills;
    • Strong vision, voice and work samples that demonstrate design excellence;
    • Design/Build experience, DBIA certification preferred.
