Job Description
Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Lead Mechanical Inspector for immediate employment in the NYC Metro office for various water related upgrades to water resource recovery facilities across NYC’s five boroughs.
Job Responsibilities
The Lead Mechanical Inspector will perform observation and acceptance of the construction work to include the installation of mechanical, electrical, and control systems. The lead Mechanical Inspector will have the primary responsibility for assuring quality of the construction. Additional responsibilities include:
- Observes Contractor’s construction activities. Accepts work completed in compliance with contract documents, rejects defective work, maintains log of rejected work, assists with resolution of construction issues.
- Coordinates with Contractor to identify upcoming work; verifies upcoming work against issued look ahead schedules.
- Reviews contract requirements, submittals, shop drawings, and other associated documentation.
- Communicates daily with the AECOM Resident Engineer/Assistant Resident Engineer in execution of their duties.
- Communicates daily with Contractor’s field team.
- Tracks progress of work in field. Monitors Contractor’s adherence to schedule and provides input on Contractor’s payment requests.
- Inspects work for conformance with contract documents, approved change orders, clarifications, etc.; identifies and reports all nonconforming work; documents all work with daily reports, photos and videos.
- Tracks and verifies Contractor time and material or force account work.
- Conducts inspections to ensure that the work is performed in compliance with the contract documents. Ensures delivered materials comply with approved submittals. Observes and approves Contractor’s testing and QA/QC activities.
- Maintains necessary project documentation, including daily, weekly, and monthly reports and logs. Prepares other required field documentation as necessary.
- Provides input for construction changes. Assist with preparation and negotiation of field orders and change orders.
- Observes implementation of health and safety procedures and practices.
- Assists with coordination of contractor work activities with Plant Operations, with focus on civil and mechanical items coordination.
- Verifies Contractor maintenance of As-Built drawings; confirm with Contractor that this is being carried out; review look-ahead schedules.• Relies on extensive experience and independent judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Responsible for monitoring conformance to quality, performance, specifications, and/or code requirements by performing inspection duties.
- Performs daily field inspections and maintains inspection records.
- Participates in punch lists, testing, and commissioning. Tracks quality assurance progress.
- Provides input to documentation for area and equipment turnovers.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- HS + 6 years of related experience and/or education in construction inspector roles for heavy civil construction projects.
- OSHA 10-hour Construction Health and Safety Course.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineering Degree in a related field.
- Experience in wastewater process and mechanical equipment installation.
- EIT or PE license.
- OSHA 30-hour Construction Health and Safety Course.
- NYCDEP Scaffolding Training (4 Hour).
- NYCDEP Erosion and Sediment Control Training (4 Hour).
- NYCDEP BEDC EHS Standards Training (4 Hour).
