Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an Entry Level Geologist/Environmental Scientist for employment in our Germantown, Maryland office . Our Water division is expanding, and we’re seeking talented professionals in Geology, Geophysics, Geosciences, GIS, or Land Surveying to join our Geophysics team in Germantown, Maryland.
The job requires technicians to walk long distances over uneven and undeveloped terrain. This work is conducted year-round in all weather conditions. The successful candidate must be able to carry and operate geophysical survey equipment, which may weigh up to 60 pounds, and perform repetitive movements while setting up, operating, and retrieving equipment in the field.

This position is expected to begin in December 2024.
You will be responsible for:
- Providing support for geophysical, geodetic, geological, geotechnical, GIS, and land surveying services, including geophysical surveys, GIS mapping, land surveys, soils and materials testing, geologic mapping, vibration and settlement monitoring, soil boring, and rock coring.
- Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams on various projects related to a wide range of civil infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrating flexibility and willingness to travel for project work part-time as needed, including opportunities for international travel.
- Working under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
- Supporting a wide variety of terrestrial, marine, borehole, and aerial geophysical investigations, including seismic refraction/reflection, MASW, GPR, electromagnetics, magnetics, microgravity, electrical resistivity imaging, utility mapping, borehole geophysical logging, downhole/crosshole seismic, bathymetric surveying, side scan sonar, sub-bottom profiling, marine magnetics, and marine seismic.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements :
- Bachelor’s Degree or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, the selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
- Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, and loading geophysical survey equipment without assistance up to 60lbs.
- Tolerance for working in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions
- Ability to maneuver safely across uneven and undeveloped terrain over long distances.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree emphasis/interest in Geology, Geophysics, Geosciences, Geographic Information Systems, or Land Surveying.
- Strong desire to learn and a professional drive.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of MS Office Programs. Capable of functioning with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software.
- A strong sense of commitment and a desire to work in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to travel for project work part-time as needed, with the possibility of international travel.
- Familiarity/capability in relevant geoscience and GIS software programs such as Surfer, ArcGIS, ArcPro, EarthImager, SeisImager, Radan, and AutoCAD.
