Job Description

Transportation Planner / Engineer - Travel Demand Modeler 

AECOM is looking for a skilled and experienced Transportation Engineer/Planner/Travel Demand Modeler to join our team supporting Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise in Ocoee, Florida, right in the heart of the Orlando area.

This role involves applying the newly developed statewide tour-based model as well as regional travel demand models. Responsibilities include developing scripts for innovative toll project evaluations and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team on planning, economic feasibility analysis, and toll road design. The Transportation Engineer/Planner/Travel Demand Modeler will leverage their skills and experience to develop and update model code for travel demand modeling, using software such as Visum, TransCAD, QGIS, R, and Python.

  • Model Development: Create and refine model code for travel demand modeling.
  • Data Preparation: Assemble and prepare data for model validation and long-range travel forecasts.
  • Model Validation: Ensure models meet required accuracy standards.
  • Forecast Development: Generate forecasts for toll road projects.
  • Documentation: Document results of modeling and forecasting efforts.
  • GIS Application: Use QGIS/ArcGIS for model design and related database development.
  • Programming: Utilize SQL, Python, R, or other programming languages for model development.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research on design, data development, and statistical analyses to improve modeling approaches

Qualifications

Minimum: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Data Science, or a related field
  • 4+ years of relevant transportation modeling experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience and knowledge of the principles, practices, and objectives of transportation planning applications, specifically the 4-Step process of travel demand modeling, Activity-Based Models, micro-simulation, and dynamic traffic assignment.
  • Experience and knowledge of GIS and database analysis, including developing scripts to process data in and out of GIS files or automated routines in QGIS / ArcGIS.
  • Experience and knowledge of choice models, development, and application to travel demand, including the use of econometrics in estimating demand models from survey data.
  • Programming experience with at least two of the following: Microsoft Visual Studio, SQL, C++, Python, R, JAVA.
  • Experience and knowledge of travel demand modeling software, such as Cube, TransCAD, TRANSIMS, and VISUM

Preferred: 

  • Utilization of advanced techniques with modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of planning sciences, data sciences and related disciplines.
  • Master’s or PhD degree in related field
