Job Description

As a Senior Hazardous Area & Functional Safety Engineer, you will lead and manage complex engineering projects, providing expert guidance in hazardous area classification, safety design, and risk management across various industrial applications. You will play a key role in ensuring project quality, compliance with European and Romanian safety standards, and contribute to the technical development of the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Engineering Leadership: Act as the lead engineer on mid- to large-sized projects, overseeing hazardous area classification, risk assessments, and safety compliance throughout each phase.
  • Technical Expertise: Offer specialized input in studies and designs, ensuring solutions adhere to functional safety standards and industry regulations.
  • Quality Control: Conduct quality control reviews for work developed by other engineers and approve/sign off on project deliverables.
  • Client Engagement: Present complex technical solutions to clients, addressing technical and regulatory issues clearly and effectively.
  • Proposal Development: Contribute to technical proposals, budgeting, and project scheduling for large-scale projects.
  • Risk Assessment Facilitation: Facilitate risk assessment processes, such as HAZOP, HAZID, Functional Safety, and LOPA, to ensure comprehensive safety standards are met.
  • Compliance Assurance: Keep current with European and Romanian hazardous area regulations and functional safety standards, ensuring project compliance.

 

 

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Primary Skills:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
    • Proficiency in hazardous area classification, checking, and verification.
    • Experience leading risk assessment processes (HAZOP, HAZID, Functional Safety, LOPA).
    • Strong background in functional safety engineering, including verification of safety-related control functions.
  • Secondary Skills:
    • Knowledge of functional safety standards and practices for hazardous areas, including design and verification.
    • Familiarity with Defense EO standards, process safety, dust explosion safety, and dangerous goods (DG) handling is advantageous.

Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain compliance with safety standards in hazardous areas.
  • Capability to assess and manage risks across various industries, including wastewater, bulk fuels, and dangerous goods.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex solutions to clients and collaborate with team members and subconsultants.

This role offers the opportunity to lead project excellence and safety compliance efforts while developing internal capability and expertise in hazardous area engineering and functional safety.
