Job Description
As part of a wider growth initiative linked to our strategic plan, we are currently seeking to appoint an individual to Lead our Impact Assessment Practice in the Republic of Ireland (RoI). Reporting directly to the UK&I Impact & Assessment Practice Lead and working closely with the Planning & Communities Director, you will be a key member of the Planning & Communities leadership team for the UK and Ireland (UK&I) region.
We are flexible on location and have offices in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Belfast. We work on a range of projects in Ireland, including renewable energy, aviation and transportation.
In this role, you will lead and manage the Impact Assessment Practice within the Planning & Communities team, with a specific focus on project delivery, resource management, work winning, and people management and engagement. About You
You are a highly motivated, organized, and proactive leader with a proven track record in the environmental consultancy industry. Your deep understanding of the UK&I Environment and Sustainability consultancy market, coupled with your grasp of the social, political, and economic drivers that influence it, will be integral to your success in this role. With extensive experience in leading diverse teams in a fast-paced environment, you have excelled in planning, designing, and delivering projects while driving data-led performance improvements. As a leader you are responsible for fostering a culture of success, engagement, and development within the team while ensuring the successful management of projects from inception to completion.
As a Technical Director you’ll lead multidisciplinary environmental inputs to large-scale development projects that are transforming our infrastructure and helping the UK achieve its net zero goals - this includes:
- Energy generation projects, including carbon capture and storage, hydrogen and renewables (solar and wind)
- Energy distribution and transmission projects (including international connectors)
- Strategic national and regional rail projects
- Highway improvements and greenway projects
- Regeneration projects, including portside developments
- Developments within the ecommerce, minerals and waste, water, defence, aviation, commercial/ residential and industrial sectors
You will work daily with technical experts within our established Environmental Impact team. We are a founding member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) EIA Quality Mark, whilst everything we do aligns with our environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy.
Your role will include:
- Lead, manage and grow the Republic of Ireland Impact Assessment Practice
- Lead the environmental inputs to EIA Screening and Scoping reports, Environmental Impact Assessment Reports , Environmental Considerations Reports and supporting documents, including the technical review of specialist chapters. You’ll be involved across project life stages, from early strategy development and site identification studies, through feasibility, optioneering/ option selection, outline design, to detailed design, discharging of conditions, construction, and scheme operation/ maintenance. You’ll have the opportunity to work across a portfolio of development projects covering multiple consenting regimes.
- Accountable for the performance of the RoI Impact Assessment Practice versus the financial plan and outlook – key performance metrics being NSR Book to Burn, Gross Margin %, Cost Utilisation %, FTEs, and employee attrition.
- Collaborate closely with the UK&I Impact Assessment Practice Lead, and the Environment, Water & Energy Client and Sector teams to develop and implement a growth plan for the Republic of Ireland Impact Assessment practice aligned to the Environment, Water & Energy Strategic Plan.
- Champion a proactive approach to work winning by identifying new business opportunities, nurturing client relationships, and participating in proposal development.
- Identify and engage with key stakeholders for client projects, establishing effective engagement strategies to ensure resources are available for projects.
- Drive project delivery excellence, ensuring projects are completed on time, on budget, and with high quality results.
- Collaborate with project managers and technical experts to allocate resources effectively and optimise project performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver multi-disciplinary projects and programs, showcasing our excellence in work winning.

- Lead by example by visibly driving SH&E culture, ensuring effective implementation of AECOM SH&E policies and procedures throughout the practice, and achievement of the SH&E core value metrics.

- Attract new talent and lead strategic and senior recruitment.
- Drive change programs to increase efficiency, profitability, and operational quality within the team.

Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Membership of a recognized professional body relative to our core markets.
- Master’s or Engineering Degree in an appropriate Environmental related field - Geology, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Social Science, or Engineering.
- Strong track record of achieving/exceeding financial KPIs and driving business development.
- Experience working with various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, transportation, and commercial development.
- Experience in leading and growing large teams and successful financial performance and business development/sales/growth experience in the public or private sectors.
- Understanding a proposed project’s potential environmental and social impacts and regulatory constraints is critical to the development of timely and cost-effective project plans, evaluative studies, sound engineering designs, effective stakeholder management and successful permitting.
