Job Description
AECOM Buildings + Place, is seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to help lead buildings projects (commercial, institutional, light industrial facilities, such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewage Lift Stations) This position can be based out of Edmonton with opportunities for hybrid work. Some travel to nearby cities may be required. This role offers opportunities for career growth.
AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building’s engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to: Municipal, Commercial, Institutional projects, Justice, Education and Government.
Major Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Lead a team in the preparation of engineering designs related to heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities projects such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, and Sewage Lift Stations.
- Direct and manage delivery teams
- Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.
- Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
- Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
- Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package.
- Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
- Prepares technical specification sections.
- Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must meet the below requirement, at a very minimum:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus six (6) years’ experience as a licensed engineer, designing HVAC and plumbing on buildings projects, including commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities, such as Water/Waste-water treatment plants and sewage lift stations.
- Professional Engineer in Alberta.
Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer ten - twelve (10 - 12) years’ experience as a licensed engineer, designing HVAC and plumbing on buildings projects, including commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities, such as Water/Waste-water treatment plants, and sewage lift stations.
- Past team leadership experience is an asset.
- Project Management designation (PMP)
- Working experience with NBC, ABC, NPC, SMACNA, ASHRAE codes and standards
- Experience using HAP, AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Project, and Power Point
- Experience with Building Energy Modeling and their software platforms (IES, eQuest, Energy Plus, HOT2000, RETScreen, etc.) would be considered an asset
- Experience with sustainability standards (LEED, Net Zero, Passive House, Envision) would be considered an asset
- Plumbing design experience
- Fire protection design experience
- Familiarity with ISO quality management system
- Experience working within internal multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication
