Job Description
The Position:
We are looking for a talented Principal Engineer who will utilize a modern technology stack to update and maintain our public web site experiences across SEO and SEM channels. This role entails being a seasoned engineer with deep frontend technology and leadership experience.
This position reports to the Director of Engineering - Web Platform. You will leverage your expertise in front-end web technology to meticulously select the latest technologies, architectural frameworks, and design patterns for implementation. Your role will involve providing visionary leadership, architectural direction, and technical mentorship to a dedicated team of engineers tasked with developing and maintaining our web platform technologies that are the front door of our business.

What you will do:
- Leverage advanced UI engineering expertise and creative insights to drive strategic innovation, shaping and launching impactful new features, functionality, and products with a focus on high scalability and resilience.
- Lead the architectural vision for cloud-native, service-oriented UI components and applications, designing systems that prioritize performance, maintainability, and adaptability for future growth.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to tackle complex application designs, championing code review and fostering a culture of continuous optimization and best practices.
- Enable continuous deployment by championing quality engineering practices: linting, unit testing, e2e testing, pipeline automation.
- Partner with and influence product and design teams to define, maintain, and evolve design system standards, setting a high bar for consistency, accessibility, and scalability across the organization.
- Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation and reference materials to guide, mentor, and inspire engineers at all levels, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and skill advancement.
- Define and enforce engineering best practices, setting a technical direction and mentoring other engineers, including staff and senior engineers, to elevate the entire team's capabilities.
- Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve complex production issues across the UI and service layers, driving root-cause analysis and preventive action to maintain system stability and reliability.
- Partner with project management to ensure timely delivery of high-quality project outcomes, prioritizing alignment with long-term engineering and business goals.
- Lead mobile-first performance optimization efforts, with a rigorous focus on improving Core Web Vitals and enhancing the overall user experience.
- Champion a deep understanding of the end-user experience, advocating for and crafting a visually and functionally beautiful web journey that aligns with business objectives and user needs.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Competencies:
- 14+ years of engineering experience working with a Javascript/Typescript, React, and NodeJS tech stack
- In-depth knowledge of front-end technologies, frameworks, and best practices.
- Experience with leveraging relational databases in a scalable, efficient way; GQL and MongoDB preferred.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment while architecting dependable solutions that scale effectively
- Role model and champion modern ways-of-working such as Agile, DevOps and related practices, actively participate in an engineering community.
- Strong communication and “storytelling” skills – ability to articulate a vision or concept in simple terms to a broad audience at every level.
- Helps enable and establish services and products to take advantage of changing industry trends and opportunities
- Is able to step back from a task and reassess size and complexity when appropriate
- Takes ownership of the quality of the solution or feature being implemented
- Demonstrates competent problem-solving skills (e.g. debugging, analysis and instrumentation) in a context beyond code they've written
- Takes ownership of keeping technical documentation for their features up to date.

Compensation
- Base Salary: $190,000 to $220,000 + 30% Bonus
