We have an exciting opportunity for a Mine PIT Design Engineer. The purpose of this role is to Design and update efficient pit and waste dumps, following geotechnical and safety guidelines, to ensure optimal and economically viable resource utilisation

Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As our Mine PIT Design Engineer some of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Safety, Health & Environment
    • Manage a safe and healthy work environment where workers and contractor can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
    • Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance with statutory requirements is met.
  • Performance and Delivery
  • Mine Planning:
    • Ensure that planning designs comply with the Mine, Health and Safety Act and the mine's regulations while staying within the production budget to achieve targets effectively.
    • Adjust the designed plans promptly whenever geological deviations occur, ensuring that the redesigns are accurate, budget-friendly, and comply with the long-term plan's requirements, including road, electrical, and water network positioning.
    • Adapt the plans based on geological deviations, market trends, and fluctuations to provide valuable inputs to the bigger mine plan picture and ensure optimal and economical production output.
  • Budget and Cost Control:
    • Manage the section's expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management:
    • Build, manage, and maintain healthy stakeholder relationships to achieve organisational goals.
    • Consult with stakeholders to gather relevant support and input for achieving production targets.

 

This role is in the Technical & Integrated Planning (T&IP) at a 6.11 level reporting to Section Manager Mine Planning

Qualifications

  • Grade 12/N3 Technical
  • National Diploma in Mining Engineering (NQF6)
  • B-Degree/B Tech in Mining Engineering (NQF7) Advantageous
  • SA Drivers License
  •  

    Technical Knowledge

  • Current technical knowledge with 3-5 years of operational Mine Planning experience.
  • Demonstrates a profound understanding of geological and geotechnical landscapes, applying this knowledge to resolve complex technical and operational challenges in mine layout design and planning.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the mining lifecycle, value chain, and the impact of mining activities on business and operational performance.
  • Multidisciplinary technical knowledge to design, engineer, and evaluate the performance of ventilation plans, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Understands and manages combined operational impacts on the environment, such as transport, noise, and vibrations.
