Job Description

The Project Finance Department is seeking a Manager – Project Finance to work with senior team members to support a wide array of transactions, including project-level debt and tax equity financings and sales of development-stage and operating assets.

In this role, you will create project marketing materials, analyze financing proposals, coordinate due diligence efforts, review financial models, prepare management and investment committee memorandums and provide general transaction support through the marketing, negotiation and documentation phases of a deal  .

This role will give you exposure to business planning activities, project development, power marketing, M&A and strategic initiatives aimed at long-term growth objectives. The Manager – Project Finance position requires excellent communication, technical and collaboration skills as well as the ability to work well under pressure, multitask, and shift priorities on the go. The successful candidate will be well organized, with sharp analytical skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize and conceptualize complex ideas. A passion for renewable energy is a strong plus.

Hours:  Full Time

Travel:  10-15%

The Manager – Project Finance is responsible for overseeing the following:   

  • Create and maintain project marketing materials including teasers and Confidential Information Memoranda working with the Project Development team and Apex subject matter experts (SMEs) to review and validate information for prospective investors.
  • Manage the due diligence process for parties considering financing or purchasing Apex projects. This will include setting up and maintaining a data room and coordinating all due diligence requests  including written responses and scheduling calls with Apex  SMEs.
  • Review complex financial models and help to update and validate inputs and identify value improvement opportunities. Work with internal team and outside consultants to strengthen assumptions in the financial model and provide analysis to support those positions in investor discussions.
  • Analyze and summarize issues associated with prospective deals to assist decision-making such as development risk, transaction structure and payments, key commercial issues etc.
  • Support deal negotiations and document review to track open issues, follow up on deliverables, and provide general transaction support.
  • Assist in the creation of materials for presentation of transaction opportunities to internal approval committees.
  • On an as-needed basis, research new market opportunities and prospective investors and help improve and update tools used to manage finance team workstreams.

 

Qualifications

To succeed as a Manager- Project Finance at Apex Clean Energy, you’ll need to excel within the following criteria:

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field required; higher degree in finance such as an MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years professional work experience
  • Confidence and experience navigating and auditing financial models
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Ability to foster cohesive teamwork among coworkers and financing counterparties
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Highly organized; able to juggle competing demands and follow through on deliverables with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated interest in the renewable energy industry
  • Professional presence with strong presentation skills
  • Builds trust by demonstrating high ethical standards and personal integrity
  • Analytical problem solver who views obstacles as challenges
  • Creative thinker who values innovation
  • Willing to travel 10-15%
  • Able to work from our headquarters in Charlottesville, VA

Work Environment:

Works primarily traditional office hours in an indoor office environment. Flexible work hours allowed when work duties and business operations permit.
