Job Description
We are seeking a manager with a passion for sustainability and a strong desire to help achieve our vision of building a regenerative business model through environmental and social actions, enabling people and the planet to thrive. From adapting to climate change, eliminating waste, embracing and restoring nature, and optimizing the health and well-being of people, the role will lead collaboratively with multiple functions across the business and play a meaningful role in aligning our strategy to deliver Avery Dennison’s sustainability goals. In this role, you will work closely with the Sustainability Director to advance, elevate, align, and implement Avery Dennison’s sustainability vision. Partnering with regional business leaders across Avery Dennison, you will develop and implement sustainability plans across all MG activity,
Key responsibilities:
Work cross-functionally to coordinate, align and proactively develop and implement environmental sustainability initiatives encompassing the full value chain of Materials Group NA products and services. This role will coordinate the efforts of all major internal partner groups (including R&D, Commercial, Supply Chain, Operations, Purchasing, Communications), external partners and customers on the company’s sustainability initiatives to advance sustainability commitments and enable capture of business value.
- Sustainability Leadership/Strategy Execution for Materials Group NA
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Sustainability related topics such as providing direction to sales & marketing teams in addressing marketplace inquiries related to product sustainability; e.g., carbon footprint, brand scorecards, etc.
- Lead sustainability efforts with commercial partners including customer engagements, education and key sustainability projects for Materials Group NA.
- Represent the company and form relationships with industry associations and sustainability organizations to stay aware of industry trends and needs.
2. Company Sustainability Goals
- Lead cross-functional project teams on identifying initiatives/projects and the execution of them for the business
- Drive execution of the NA GHG Scope 3 reduction program to contribute to achieving the company’s 2030 GHG reduction goal. This includes collaborating cross functionally supporting the procurement organization to engage suppliers in the decarbonization journey for upstream reductions, engaging R&D/Marketing/Sales for development and growth of sustainable portfolio.
- Lead Scope 3 project and process management and for data collection, validation, calculation and aggregation of efforts to serve business purposes.
- Drive development of goals, metrics and targets. Build measurement systems & scorecards to help manage and supervise projects and initiatives to enable business to reach & exceed targets.
- Communicate program status to partners and ensure advancement of deliverables; collaboration with internal & external communications team to drive awareness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Business, Marketing or a related field. Advance degree, MBA with an emphasis in Sustainability preferred.
- 5+ years business experience in sustainability in a manufacturing industry and/or commercial emphasis.
- Expertise in the external landscape and associated dynamics related to environmental and social implications within the packaging industry.
- Expertise in sustainability concepts, including social and environmental standards (e.g., U.N. Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, SASB, GRI, TCFD, CDP)
- Expertise in sustainability management, reporting and transparency, inclusion and diversity, and/or supply chain.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work with cross-functional business teams within our global network and with external parties.
- Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders of multiple levels, within and outside the company.
- Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills, including communicating and marketing sustainability strategy, initiatives and progress.
- Strong leadership skills. Ability to lead, contribute, and influence others in a team-based organization
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the year.
This position can be based in Mentor, Ohio or remote.
