What You’ll Do
The Global Medical Head for Immunology is a key member of the Worldwide Medical leadership team and is responsible for Global medical strategy and execution of the Immunology priorities. The Global Medical Head for Immunology is a critical role in the medical and broader organization given the importance of Biogen’ robust pipeline including multiple programs with ongoing phase 3 studies –including SLE, CLE, nephrology, and transplant medicine=
In addition to building and maintaining external relationships among medical experts globally, the role interfaces substantially inside Biogen with the Regional and Local Medical organizations as well as with Product Development & Commercialization teams (PDC), Global Commercial and the R&D organization.
A true expert in medical affairs, the incumbent must demonstrate the agility to navigate the complexity of our business, including a deep understanding of the dynamics of the competitive landscape, the foresight to drive the vision and Global Medical strategy for a broad Immunology Franchise, the leadership to oversee a team of experts, and the ability to collaborate in a matrixed environment. The incumbent will need to define and achieve pre-launch excellence, enable Regional and Local teams to execute launches, and globally support post-launch life-cycle management activities across the dynamic Immunology portfolio.
Main responsibilities include:
- Build a world class immunology medical affairs team with the right leadership capabilities through an agile, proactive, and accountable culture that translates challenges into clear opportunities.
- Deliver impactful real-world evidence and use data to improve patient outcomes. Differentiate the Biogen Immunology assets through innovative methods to generate insights, leverage real world data and communicate to the right stakeholders at the right time.
- Establish and build upon the trust and credibility with HCPs and leverage innovative, metric-driven digital solutions to enhance awareness around our programs and enable the appropriate use of our products.
- Develop capabilities and innovative solutions to support the growth of the business in an agile and efficient manner through collaboration across functions and the Regions.
Additional responsibilities include:
- With a deep understanding of the rheumatology, dermatology, nephrology, and/or transplant medicine and the current Clinical and Commercial strategies across the geographies, the incumbent will drive the development of medical strategies for the Immunology Franchise within Global Medical.
- Lead the Global Medical Immunology team with confidence, and build, manage, and retain a world-class cohesive medical team.
- Manage the Global Medical, Immunology Franchise budget in a prudent and scalable manner.
- Continue to improve the reputation of Biogen globally among key external stakeholders in the Immunology space.
- Collaborate effectively with key stakeholders (especially PDC Head, Global commercial, Regional Medical Heads and R&D) across the organization to deliver against the company strategy.
Qualifications
- An experienced MD, preferably with subspecialty training and direct patient care experience in rheumatology, dermatology, nephrology, and/or transplant medicine or PhD/PharmD with related research and industry experience.
- 15+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience spanning clinical research and Medical Affairs.
- 8+ years of management/leadership experience.
- Operational experience leading and managing a Medical Affairs organization and experience in the Global Market.
- A strong strategic mindset, excellent communication skills, and excellent ability to influence across the organization.
- Demonstrated relationship building capability and cross-functional teamwork skills
- Demonstrated business and financial acumen
- Strong people leadership, planning and organization, analytics, decision making and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team towards meeting and exceeding objectives
