The Industry, Procurement and Knowledge Transfer Department (IPT) is currently looking for a communications officer to join the EU Projects Office under the Fellowship Programme. The main responsibilities of the role include implementing and reporting on the communication activities of European projects coordinated by CERN. Primary audiences are: project participants, policy-makers, the international scientific community, industry and the general public. 

Functions

• Create and update communication and marketing material, as agreed with the Communication and Marketing Officer for IPT;
• Science and technology writing (news items, articles);
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of the EU Projects Office strategic communications plan;
• Create, implement and evaluate communication plans for events related to EU projects and other relevant IPT activities;
• Contribute to the evaluation and monitoring of the EU Projects Office communication activities, including quarterly and project reports;
• Attend meetings related to EU projects;
• Create a network of contacts to support the generation, promotion and evaluation of communication activities;
• Keep abreast of the latest technologies to support an efficient communication;
• Share resources and assist with other communication and marketing activities in the IPT department, including work on annual reports.

Eligibility criteria:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
• You have graduated, or are about to graduate, with a university degree (BSc or MSc level in science, engineering, marketing, communication or business) and have no more than 4 years’ relevant experience after obtaining your degree.

Essential skills and experience:

• Experience in communication related to science, technology and innovation;
• Excellent spoken and written English, proficiency in French is an advantage.

Please note that CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship.

In return, CERN will provide you with:

• An employment contract for between six months (minimum) up to a maximum of 36 months.
• A stipend ranging from 5,305 to 6,586 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
• Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
• Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva.
• 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
