The Lead Developer will primarily be responsible for communicating with and overseeing work of development team for creating custom WordPress themes, website maintenance, and helpdesk support. The Lead Developer will be customer-facing, communicating directly with the client as needed. This is a part-time staff position that will be done remotely, perfect for an experienced freelancer looking for some steady income. Preference may be given to applicants in the Seattle area who can meet in person as needed.

Our custom themes must be up to standards and will need to hold up to being used with plugins and WP updates. 

The perfect candidate will exhibit attention to detail, strong coding skills, a commitment to high quality and meeting deadlines, excellent communication skills (written and verbal), and a sense of humor. 

Essential Job Functions

• Communicate with and oversee work of development team, including contractors

• Assist in selection of qualified contractors as needed

• Ensure that all developers and contractors are adhering to the highest standard of quality

• Understand and communicate with team the important principles of good development

• Provide quality assurance and testing of development projects prior to showing to client

• Assist Project Manager in determining the feasibility of a project with respect to time, cost and resources

• Participate in online project kickoff meetings with Caffeinated team and client

• Provide input to design team regarding overall design, information architecture, user experience, and features of website

• Oversee client website maintenance using InfiniteWP management software: upgrades, updates, backups, and edits, assigning tasks as needed

• Oversee help desk, assigning tasks as needed, ensuring quality and timely response, and communicating directly with client.

• Function as a 2nd tier for escalated help desk issues as needed

• Manage CaffeHost website hosting service

• Function as technical support for Caffeinated Communications Studio staff and clients

• Train clients on how to use their new websites via Skype or WebEx

• Attend a short weekly team meeting online via WebEx

Essential Job Requirements

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Post-secondary coursework or training in computer science or related field

Experience:

• 3-4 years development or programming experience

Technical Skills:

• Demonstrated experience working with WordPress, custom themes and responsive design
• Knowledgeable in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP
• Proficiency with FTP applications
• Experience with Joomla, Drupal or other CMS as plus
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software a plus

Other Skills:

• Diplomacy and comfort in interacting with all types of people
• Reliable, honest, and with a positive outlook
• Customer service experience a plus
• Ability to maintain discretion where sensitive and confidential issues are concerned
• Ability to work under time constraints and juggle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously in an environment in which priorities and deadlines change frequently
• Self-driven, with a good approach to working efficiently and effectively

Hours & Work Requirements:

• Work hours will vary depending upon client load, but average 5-10 hours/week
• Must be willing to work occasional evenings and/or weekends in order to meet deadlines
• Must be able to work independently and remotely
• Must be able to respond to client support requests within 24 hours
• Must have own computer & reliable Internet connection

Compensation

$20-30/hour DOE
