Job Description

The Wage & Hour Auditor is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state wage and hour laws, with a particular emphasis on California law.  The successful candidate will be informed on evolving wage & hour regulations and perform observations to ensure team members and team leaders are complying.  This role will review and provide regular reports on exceptions to our timekeeping standard.    

This is a remote position and only candidates residing in California will be considered. The ideal candidate will live near one of our offices in Los Angeles, Orange County, or San Francisco.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain adherence to federal state and local wage and hour regulations, focusing on compliance and payroll accuracy.
  • Responsible for educating team leaders and responding to questions/issues pertaining to California Closets’ wage and hour standards; this will include payroll processes, minimum wage laws, timekeeping standards, and proper wage payment.
  • Create and run weekly payroll reports for team leaders to review. 
  • Perform on-site and virtual observations on our timekeeping processes and compliance to the standard.
  • Partner with front-line team leaders to correct non-compliances and establish recommended processes to ensure compliance in the future.
  • Escalate to GMs and HR when repeated noncompliance is observed.
  • Partner with Payroll team to correct payments as needed when timekeeping errors result in pay impact to our team members
  • Create and conduct trainings and presentations regarding Wage-Hour laws.
  • Assist with configuration of any new HRIS systems to ensure wage and hour compliance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with front-line leaders and General Managers to ensure seamless timekeeping and pay practices
    • Monitor all minimum wage statutes and ensure compliance

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, Paralegal or related field
  • 3-5 years of Payroll, labor compliance or HR experience
  • California Wage and Hour Law knowledge is preferred.
  • Confidence in communication, verbal, written, interpersonal, and large group training and presentations
  • Knowledge of auditing and onsite inspection processes
  • Understanding and knowledge of payroll, timekeeping and labor law is required
  • Experience working with HRIS systems (UKG, Workday or other)
  • Understanding of Corporate processes and how to document, train and continuously improve processes
