The City of Philadelphia’s Office of Sustainability (OOS) moves Philadelphia toward a shared vision of a city providing environmental, equity, economic, and health benefits for all. The Energy Office, housed within OOS, manages municipal government energy operations.
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibilities of this position include coordinating and supporting activities related to the implementation of Greenworks: A Vision for a Sustainable Philadelphia. The position reports to the Deputy Director of Sustainability and works closely with multiple departments. Candidates fluent in a second language, which is preferred but not required, will also help communicate about Greenworks in that language.

The salary range for this position is $42,000 to $48,000.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide general staff support to the Office of Sustainability and the Energy Office.
- Support policy and program portfolios, such as: zero waste, sustainable procurement, building energy benchmarking, sustainable business tax credit, and green fleets.
- Coordinate with City of Philadelphia departments and external partners to implement Greenworks visions.
- • Help establish and execute methods for ongoing measurement of Greenworks progress.

- Sustainability Literacy – Knowledge of emerging environmental and social trends related to sustainability.
- Planning and Evaluating - Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
- Written Communication - Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
- Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, considering the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
- Database Administration - Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for automating, developing, implementing, or administering database systems.
- Database Management Systems - Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data.
- Interpersonal Skills - Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, and previous experience advancing urban sustainability.
2. Strong organizational, communication, data management, and interpersonal skills are required.
3. Fluency in a second language preferred, but not required.
