Job Description
We are seeking an experienced candidate to lead product and marketing management functions for Current’s controls business and portfolio (NX Lighting Controls, Daintree, and LightGRID+). Reporting to the VP & GM, Controls & Software, this leader will work cross-functionally with the Commercial, Engineering, and Operations organizations to develop and execute the Controls & Software business unit strategy. The Controls Director is also responsible for managing the controls product and marketing management team to position the business for success. Exceptional lighting controls expertise, sales leadership experience and ability to work effectively within a matrixed organizational environment are core requirements of this role.
In this role you will be responsible for developing an effective business unit strategy that will drive profitable sales growth, define the Controls product roadmap, as well as build effective go-to-market and specification strategies in partnership with other members of the Controls & Software leadership team. You will lead a team responsible for the success of our overall controls strategy, enabling the team to adapt and execute quickly to deliver strong commercial results and growth in integrated lighting solutions, control systems, software, and services as demonstrated through results-driven revenue generation for the Controls portfolio.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver strong product vitality through new product development (NPD) and upgrades (VE/VA)
- Define, develop, and implement product and channel strategy to deliver desired results for Current’s Controls business
- Maintain expert level of product knowledge and code/application and articulate technology and product positioning to both internal and external customers and channel partners
- Lead team of Product Managers, Product Owners and Product Marketing to define and develop a product roadmap, and go-to-market strategy that aligns with business initiatives, growth plans and market requirement focused intensely on defined voice of the customer
- Set effective goals, product specifications, schedules, and budgets for product execution working with respective engineering leads.
- Responsible for product research and customer feedback to determine product needs and product improvements within the lighting controls offering.
- Ensure that defined product features are developed, tested and qualified to meet product requirements as outlined in comprehensive marketing requirements.
- Clearly communicate roadmaps, priorities and project decisions to management and key stakeholders inside and outside of the business.
- Manage communications with senior leadership as it relates to deadlines, current project status, budget, and adjustments to project scope or timing.
- Work with a broad team (including marketing, engineering, supply-chain, sales, finance, product support) to execute strategic priorities and achieve profitable growth
- Work closely with Lighting Fixture brands to ensure requirements are captured and accelerate in-fixture adoption of integral controls and connected lighting.
- Work closely with Project Management teams to ensure delivery of products that are on time, within scope and on cost target.
- Work closely with Supply Chain and Operations to manage the entirety of the product life cycle to ensure timely delivery and supply of products to market.
- Leverage analytical and financial analysis skills and tools to evaluate business P&L, customer value propositions, as well as economic justification of NPD and Sustaining Product Development initiatives.
- Establish a strong collaborative environment and established processes to improve productivity of product development team.
- Responsible for the hiring, coaching and leadership of a high performing team of Product Managers, Product Owners and Product Marketers.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5-10 years in controls industry; 10 years of leadership experience
- Product Management leadership experience with lighting controls
- Demonstrated comprehension of the transformation that is taking place in the industry and in the Controls space
- Technical product and energy code competency, specifically in Lighting Controls
- Flexibility, resiliency, and adaptability in the face of rapidly changing environment
- Experience managing teams and providing leadership and individual guidance to staff.
- Exceedingly industrious, decisive, transparent, and self-motivated individual to work in a fast-paced environment
- An advocate for strategic change with a demonstrated ability to articulate a clear vision and secure adoption from a cross-functional team
- Proven business leader with strong communication skills, demonstrated inclusive behavior, and strong ability to connect with and influence cross functionally to provide effective leadership
- Strong organizational, analytical and project management skills combined with technical aptitude.
- Results oriented, with exceptional team building skills.
- Ability to present to an audience – internal and external to company
- Computer Skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
Education:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, MBA Preferred
Travel
- Willing and able to travel up to 50%
Compensation
The position has a compensation package inclusive of base, bonus (if eligible), benefits, 401k contribution, time off, recognition awards and more. This salary range is 166,000-200,000.
