Job Description
WHAT'S THE JOB?
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Indigenous Relations, the Indigenous Relations Advisor is responsible for contributing to the development and execution of internal and external Indigenous Relations strategies to support Dexterra’s business needs. This position serves as a strategic liaison on Indigenous Relations matters and is responsible for supporting established relationships internally and externally through open dialogue, regular communication, networking opportunities and attendance at Indigenous and community functions. Working closely with the Sales organization and other Dexterra Group’s Business Divisions, this position will be responsible for enhancing existing Indigenous partnerships and projects, while supporting the advancement of opportunities for business growth by sustaining effective relationships internally and externally. This role will require travel to various locations throughout Western and Northern Canada up to 40% of the time.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- As a key representative of the company and main focal for Indigenous communities, proactively build, grow and foster meaningful relationships with Indigenous leadership and key individuals and affiliated entities, where applicable, within your portfolio for the purpose of developing long-term partnerships.
- Participate in community and key, strategic Industry events for the purpose of developing new relationships, networking, demonstrating our commitment to continuous learning, and to identify new opportunities and projects
- Work collaboratively with other lines of business (i.e. Sales, Proposals, Operations, Legal etc.) to ensure updated, relevant and strategic information is gathered and shared for the purpose of developing partnerships, responding to Request for Proposal’s and ensuring relationships with Indigenous communities and entities are fostered.
- Continuously communicate our company’s vision, strategies, programs and services to build awareness.
- Facilitate the process and content of engagement with Indigenous communities.
- Participate in the development and program deployment for new initiatives and existing partnerships.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to Indigenous communities, affiliated business entities and/or where support is needed.
- Manage the creation and oversight of agreements to ensure partnerships are compliant with legal and contractual obligations
- In coordination with the Indigenous community or entity and working with internal lines of business, ensure all reports, financial requests and accountabilities are fulfilled (ie. payments, financial reporting)
- Coordinate and prepare reports for the Company, customers and Indigenous partners as necessary.
- Provide coordination for all aspects of the planning, implementation and evaluation of special projects and programs.
- Assist with development and management of corporate Indigenous awareness training and initiatives.
- Actively support and advance the organizations efforts in adhering to CCIB’s PAIR certification
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Post-secondary education or relevant experience with a preference to Indigenous studies, Social Sciences, Communications, public or business administration, public policy or related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Business Development, Indigenous Relations, Community Relations, Communications or similar role.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, leadership and Indigenous business entities
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe software.
- Exposure to financial reports including budgetary guidelines and project expenditures is an asset.
- Possession of general business acumen and experience in the natural resource development, land development or service sectors is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and recent driver’s abstract will be required prior to position commencement.
