Job Description
REPORTS TO: The Tax Research Analyst is responsible for monitoring state, county, and municipal telecommunications, sales and use, and various other tax rates, documenting the changes, and entering them into EZtax. The Tax Research Analyst is also responsible for maintaining the tax logic in EZtax, testing, EZtax updates, and mapping special tax districts for EZgeo. The Tax Research Analyst may also contribute thought leadership by authoring blogs, newsletter articles, white papers or conference topics. Additionally, the Tax Research Analyst assists customers with tax rate and logic questions and, when appropriate, provides supporting documentation.
Qualifications
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Monitors state legislation for changes in telecommunications taxes, including USF and TRS, and particular sales and use taxes
• Monitors county and municipal jurisdictions for changes in various tax rates, including 911, gross receipts, license, and utility taxes
• Updates the “Master Tax Spreadsheet” when tax rate changes occur
• Enters tax rate changes and maintains the tax logic in EZtax
• Tests the EZtax updates to verify accuracy before an EZtax update release
• Provides customer support by answering questions and providing supporting documentation when necessary
• Assists team with entering taxes that undergo significant changes into EZtax, such as TX ROW
• Maps special tax districts for EZgeo
• Gathers remittance forms and addresses for the Compliance Department
• Contributes to thought leadership formats supported by EZtax, such as blog posts, newsletters, white papers and speaking engagements
• Performs additional duties as requested
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor degree preferably in accounting, finance, pre-law or economics
• CPA or JD, preferred
• Previous knowledge of, and ability to research and analyze the consequences of changes in state, county, and municipal telecommunication, sales and use, and various other taxes
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally orally and in writing
• Analytic ability at a level sufficient to understand and resolve complex client requests and concerns
• Ability to use various software programs including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, Internet Explorer, ArcGIS v 10.3 and EZtax products
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision
• Ability to maintain organization and attention to detail
• Ability to work in a team environment and collectively address and resolve team issues and receive constructive feedback
• Ability to meet production and quality expectations
