Job Description

Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, completely and consistently perform complex inspections, often involving difficult set-ups, adjustments and very close tolerances, on a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, and/or optical assemblies. Works from blueprints, process sheets, MIL-specs, written and verbal instructions, and established inspection procedures. Typical duties could include, but would not be limited to those listed below.

 

Responsibilities and Tasks in order of priority to be successful:

  • Must be able to perform all of the following types of inspections.
    • Electrical Assembly: Perform visual inspections of all manufacturing operations, requiring viewing work through eye loops and microscopes. Check for proper type and placement of components, proper bonding, joining, soldering, cabling, labeling, etc.
    • Mechanical: Perform mechanical checks using basic adjustable measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, depth gauges, etc. to inspect for height of components and dimensions of mechanical parts. May use surface plates and standard configurations of instruments when all set-ups and sequence of operations are per prescribed procedures or practices. May check mechanisms for proper fit, end plan, etc.
    • Optical: May use established set-ups of optical measuring equipment such as interferometers and autocollimators to verify location, alignment and mounting techniques of optical components. Inspect surface quality for scratches, finish stains, digs, and cleanliness. May interpret spectral scan data to determine spectral acceptability of optical coatings.
    • Perform minor electrical tests on boards and components to determine acceptance.
    • Utilize sampling plans and switching techniques outlined in various sampling plans.
    • Assist and instruct other inspectors in learning and performing their duties.
    • Perform product line audits to verify compliance to ISO 9000 requirements.
    • Prepare written records and reports as required. Report quality trends to supervisor.
    • Thoroughly, legibly and accurately document inspection results and other data on prescribed forms.
    • Tactfully and effectively communicate with operations personnel concerning defective products or processes.
    • May perform duties of inspectors in lower grades.
    • Perform vendor source inspections and perform audits in connection with the Vendor Partnership Program. Interface with customer(s) on source inspections.
    • May help develop or suggest inspection procedures and data sheets for Q.E. approval and work with engineers to assist in reviews of rejects in performing defect analysis.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

Requires the ability to comprehend blueprints, MIL-specs, purchase orders and inspection procedures and familiarity with Elbit Systems of America- Merrimack products and the use of a wide variety of inspection instruments, equipment and techniques. At least 3 years of directly related experience is normally required for proficiency in the above areas.
