Job Description
The Transformational Operations Manager will play a pivotal role in achieving $40M in growth for the medical device business by 2026. This leader will support the operations plan, accelerating the company’s ability to scale, innovate, and deliver high-quality services. They will ensure effective management of key operational goals such as scalability, flexibility, and predictability, while supporting the integration of newly acquired business units. This role will be critical in fostering a culture of agility, client intimacy, and continuous improvement across the organization.
- Own and Build the Burst Capacity Team
- Lead the development of a dedicated team that focuses on scaling operations during peak demand periods, ensuring flexibility and agility in operations.
- Measure and track the team’s success in increasing throughput, reducing response times, and maintaining high-quality standards.
- Develop and Implement Scheduling Processes
- Design and implement a robust, flexible scheduling system to efficiently allocate resources across business units, addressing both short- and long-term demand changes.
- Oversee the scheduling process across departments, ensuring smooth operations, minimizing delays, and supporting scalability.
- Implement Performance Management Processes
- Standardize performance management systems across all business units (BUs) to drive consistent, measurable improvements in operational efficiency.
- Develop and codify KPIs, thresholds, and levers to track and improve operational performance continuously.
- Partner with Business Units (BUs)
- Lead the integration of newly acquired business units, ensuring smooth operational transitions and maximizing synergies across departments.
- Focus on optimizing operational functions, such as testing services, manufacturing capabilities, and product delivery processes, to support future growth and acquisitions.
- Lead Lean Transformations
- Drive Lean initiatives across departments, partnering with cross-functional teams to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Work with leaders in Six Sigma and Lean practices to improve operational effectiveness, enhance throughput, and ensure future scalability across operations.
- Facilitate Lean transformations by applying proven methodologies to reduce waste, improve processes, and deliver operational excellence.
- Promote Knowledge Transfer and Process Automation
- Lead efforts to reduce reliance on tribal knowledge by codifying at least 80% of critical processes and best practices, making them accessible to all employees.
- Spearhead automation projects that improve speed, consistency, and operational capacity, allowing the business to scale with fewer resources.
Qualifications
Additional Roles Involved in Six Sigma/Lean Practices:
- Lean/Six Sigma Black Belts and Green Belts: Collaborate closely with Black Belts and Green Belts to deploy Lean and Six Sigma methodologies across all departments, ensuring that process improvements are data-driven and sustainable.
- Process Engineers: Work alongside process engineers to identify inefficiencies and redesign processes for greater productivity, reduced waste, and enhanced throughput.
- Project Managers: Lead and collaborate with project managers who oversee the execution of Lean and Six Sigma projects and Project Managers that work to support clients in project delivery ensuring alignment with broader business goals and operational targets.
- Continuous Improvement Specialists: Partner with these specialists to create and sustain a culture of ongoing innovation and efficiency within the organization.
SMART Goals:
- Scalability Goal:
- Achieve a 25% increase in throughput by Q2 2025 in Packaging through the introduction of new scheduling tools and the Burst Capacity Team, maintaining quality and service while scaling production.
- Flexibility Goal:
- Implement a flexible scheduling system to manage demand fluctuations, reducing backlog to a maximum of 4 weeks, with a 90% on-time delivery rate by Q2 2025.
- Predictability Goal:
- Achieve 90% on-time delivery (OTD) across all departments supported by the Burst team by Q2 2025, ensuring consistent service levels and performance improvements.
- Knowledge Transfer Goal:
- Codify and document at least 80% of critical processes and best practices by Q2 2025, building a knowledge-sharing culture through regular training programs.
Key Capabilities and Qualifications:
- Experience and Technical Expertise:
- Proven leadership in building and scaling cross-functional teams, with experience leading operational transformations in high-growth or regulated industries.
- Deep expertise in Lean transformations, Six Sigma, performance management, and operational efficiency improvements.
- Strong background in change management and process optimization, with the ability to drive continuous improvement across departments and support successful business integrations.
- Experience with scheduling systems, process automation, and operational standardization.
- Proven ability to provide early insights into internal communications and guide operational improvements with scalable solutions.
- Proven track record in operations management, preferably within the medical device or regulated industries.
- Leadership and People Management:
- Extensive experience in building, leading, and motivating high-performing teams, with a focus on collaboration and innovation.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Strong analytical skills to assess operations and recommend effective solutions for improving quality, efficiency, and scalability.
- Communication and Relationship Building:
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build lasting client relationships and communicate complex operational requirements effectively.
- Skilled in stakeholder management to foster collaboration across all organizational levels.
- Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Engineering, Life Sciences, Regulatory Affairs).
- Six Sigma or Lean certification (Black Belt or Green Belt) is preferred.
- Master’s degree or equivalent is a plus.
Additional Information
Position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with overtime as needed.
