Job Description
The Victory Institute seeks an experienced, entrepreneurial leader to run its suite of leadership development programs for LGBT public leaders.
Over the last twenty years, Victory has trained hundreds of LGBT leaders to run for public office through our Candidate & Campaign Trainings. Our programs have expanded significantly in recent years to include the International LGBT Leadership Conference, the David Bohnett LGBT Leaders Fellowship, the Executive Appointments Project, the Victory Congressional Internship and Fellowship, our first training abroad in Colombia, and the Movement Leaders Fellowship.
These programs are strong, and are ready to be taken to the next level of leadership development excellence and attract new sources of grant and corporate funding.
Qualifications
The candidate will have all of the following qualities:
- Vision of professional leadership development and program design with creative and strategic ideas of how the Victory Institute can help further the development, efficacy, and success of LGBT leaders.
- Experience developing and executing leadership development programs -- you will help establish research-driven best practices across all of our programs to help attract long-term grant funding.
- Passion for recruiting, recognizing potential, coaching, and making connections to people and opportunities -- you will get to know hundreds of LGBT leaders from across the country and help them figure out what they can do to be more effective and successful.
- Demonstrated ability to build, grow and sell in a lean, entrepreneurial nonprofit environment, including experience with grant proposals and grant management -- you will recognize opportunities to expand and enhance programming while connecting to potential individual, foundation and corporate partners.
- Have had primary responsibility for managing a budget of at least $1MM and 2 full-time staff -- you will manage a growing budget of $2MM and a solid team of three program managers and associates and occasional international fellows.
- Willingness to travel and understanding of technology -- you will need to connect with LGBT leaders in-person, by Skype, and through the web to provide great customer service and information to our leaders.
The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following qualities:
- Relationships with foundations with potential for giving to LGBT equality -- you will help identify and support strategic connections to potential funders.
- Program evaluation experience to identify areas for improvement in program design and delivery and to enhance our theory of change -- you will strengthen our programs and their effectiveness.
- Understanding of diversity within the LGBT community and connections to marginalized communities -- you will promote leaders at the intersection of multiple identities.
- International development experience and connections in Latin America, Africa or Asia -- our International Leadership program is currently in Colombia and will expand to other countries in the coming years.
- Congressional and presidential connections -- our congressional internship and fellowship and presidential appointments programs do best with more connections to leverage for our candidates and trainees.
