Import/Export Operations Manager (m/w/d)

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily import/export operations, including customs clearance, transport logistics, and related documentation (bills of lading, invoices, and customs declarations).
  • Ensure compliance with both local and international trade regulations, maintaining updated knowledge on any changes in customs laws and global standards.
  • Track performance metrics for operational efficiency, such as processing times, compliance rates, and cost effectiveness, ensuring alignment with global KPIs.
  • Collaborate with regional and global teams to ensure alignment of local operations with overall trade strategies, sharing feedback on market conditions and operational challenges.
  • Manage local trade budgets and monitor expenses for import/export activities, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Resolve operational issues that arise with shipments, including customs clearance delays, cargo discrepancies, or logistics challenges.
  • Train and lead the local team, ensuring the team is fully equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills for efficient operations.
  • Provide strategic input to improve local operations, ensuring operational excellence, sustainability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

COMPETENCIES: 

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to align the local team with global trade objectives.
  • Deep understanding of trade compliance, customs procedures, and logistics operations.
  • Financial acumen to manage local budgets, control costs, and align performance with global financial targets.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, customs brokers, suppliers, and transport service providers to ensure smooth operations.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills to address operational challenges and ensure timely resolution of issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to lead the team, interact with stakeholders, and manage external relationships.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in trade operations, logistics, or customs management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. 
  • Advanced certifications in trade or customs management (e.g., customs broker certification) preferred, in line with EU regulations (e.g., Customs Union training or EU Trade Compliance certification).
  • English and German language skills in speaking and writing are required.
