You will also help shape and grow a local cloud engineering team, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership.
This is a unique opportunity for someone looking to transition from on-premise or hybrid environments to a cloud-native, cloud-first approach. Your contributions will directly influence how we architect, automate, and secure our global infrastructure. Additionally, you will manage and mentor junior engineers as we expand our presence in Sri Lanka.
Key Responsibilities:
Cloud Infrastructure Management
- Architect & Deploy: Lead the design and implementation of VM-based and cloud-native systems primarily on Azure and AWS.
- Optimization & Monitoring: Continuously analyze performance and availability, implementing improvements to ensure reliability.
- Scaling & Reliability: Oversee the deployment of cloud-based applications, focusing on high availability and disaster recovery.
- Issue Resolution: Act as an escalation point to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in production environments.
Team Management & Mentorship
- Local Team Build-Out: As our first hire in Sri Lanka, collaborate with HR and management to recruit and onboard additional cloud engineers.
- Technical Leadership: Provide hands-on guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level team members.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate cross-functional teams, distribute tasks, and track progress to meet project deadlines.
- Career Development: Foster a culture of continuous learning, offering coaching, training, and professional development to emerging engineers.
Automation & Infrastructure-as-Code
- Scripting & Tooling: Develop and maintain advanced automation scripts (e.g., Python, Bash) for routine tasks.
- Infrastructure-as-Code: Utilize tools like Terraform or CloudFormation to provision and manage cloud resources.
- Continuous Improvement: Champion DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing to ensure rapid, safe deployments.
Security & Compliance
- Best Practices: Implement and enforce security policies (network security, data protection, identity/access management) for cloud environments.
- Monitoring & Response: Continuously monitor systems for vulnerabilities, respond to alerts, and ensure remediation.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure infrastructure adheres to relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, SOC, GDPR).
Qualifications
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in cloud operations or infrastructure engineering.
- Hands-on expertise in Azure and AWS (VM hosting, networking, security).
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, or similar).
- Project Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading cloud projects end-to-end.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for complex technical issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Team Leadership Experience: Previous experience managing or mentoring a small engineering team.
- Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipeline experience.
- Familiarity with containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Networking concepts at an advanced level (VPCs, subnets, routing, firewalls).
- Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or similar.
