Job Description

This role is responsible for driving cloud financial accountability, cost optimization, and operational efficiency across all cloud environments. The focus will be on financial governance, resource utilization, and cost-saving strategies to ensure that our cloud investments are aligned with overall business objectives. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cloud Cost Management & Optimization:
    • Monitor and analyze cloud usage and spending trends across multiple cloud providers.
    • Implement cost optimization strategies, including RI (Reserved Instances), Savings Plans, and Spot Instances.
    • Develop automation for cost management, such as automated instance scaling, scheduling, and waste reduction.
    • Ensure proper tagging, allocation, and chargeback of cloud costs to respective teams or business units.
  • Financial Operations & Reporting:
    • Partner with finance and engineering teams to track budgets, forecast cloud spend, and improve cost transparency.
    • Generate cost reports, dashboards, and alerts to provide insights into cloud expenditures.
    • Identify anomalies in cloud billing and work with teams to remediate cost inefficiencies.
  • Cloud Governance & Compliance:
    • Establish FinOps best practices and policies for cloud cost control and financial governance.
    • Ensure compliance with internal cost policies, security guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
    • Work with procurement teams to negotiate better cloud contracts and pricing models.
  • Collaboration & Education:
    • Educate engineering and business teams on cloud cost awareness, budgeting, and best practices.
    • Work cross-functionally with DevOps, Cloud, Finance, and Procurement teams to enhance financial accountability.
    • Advocate for a culture of cost-conscious cloud usage within the organization.
  • Knowledge Creation, Training & Education:  
    • Create and maintain knowledge articles related to cloud governance and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Hands on experience in Cloud Cost Management, FinOps, or Cloud Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, and third-party FinOps tools
  • Experience with financial modeling, cost forecasting, and cloud budgeting.
  • Proficiency in automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Terraform).
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, serverless computing, and containerized environments.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate across engineering, finance, and leadership teams.
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner.
