About the IU Student Foundation
The IU Student Foundation is the student arm of the IU Foundation. Founded in 1950, the department provides leadership opportunities for undergraduate students on the Bloomington campus that are educational, philanthropic, and fun. The flagship event is the Little 500 bicycle race held annually. The department is comprised of four staff members, 400 student cyclists, and over 150-member volunteer students. The students are led by two student leadership groups: the Steering Committee, a group of selected seniors charged with overseeing IUSF General Members, and the Riders Council, both juniors and seniors who lead the Little 500 rider community through instructional events, rides, and social activities.
Job Description
The compensation range for the position is approximately $50,000-$59,000 annually. It is an on-site position in Bloomington, Indiana, with regular nights & weekends to meet the needs of the student population and supporting team.
The Indiana University Foundation is seeking an Assistant Director in charge of Little 500 races for the IU Student Foundation. Reporting to the Associate Director of the IU Student Foundation, this position is responsible for the full coordination of various Student Foundation sponsored events and committees including the Little 500 race. The selected candidate will be functioning as a mentor and advisor for the IUSF "Riders Council", evaluating student leadership abilities, guiding students in the coordination of events and programs, interacting with alumni, fostering inclusion in IU rider community, and working with the IUSF staff to facilitate the daily operation of the IU Student Foundation.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of student activities/programming and demonstrated experience mentoring students in leadership roles, with a preference for a background in student development.
- Must be able to exercise good judgment in the handling of confidential personal information and sensitive issues and situations.
- Demonstrated ability to use current word processing, spreadsheet and database software used by the department.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of student activities/programming and demonstrated ability to mentor students in leadership roles.
- Knowledge and/or experience with the Little 500 or similar large-scale student events is strongly preferred.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree is required
- 2-3 years event coordination, leadership, sponsorship acquisition, alumni and community outreach, student engagement or related experience
