Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The award-winning Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor to provide financial aid support to its student body in the Office of Financial Aid. This position is the central point of contact for students seeking eligibility information with respect to financial support in pursuing a culinary education at ICE. 

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet with students, perspective students, and parents 
  • Answer telephone calls, respond to emails, and reply to messages from prospective students and parents
  • Update student records in CampusVue with activities via data entry or scanning of documents
  • Perform daily activities assigned internally 
  • Review ISIRs carefully and contacting non-selected students to make corrections 
  • Follow up on private lenders, such as Sallie Mae (Open Net) and NJ Class (HESAA) for students progress with their loans 
  • Draft payment plans 
  • Collect federal aid documents, such as verification, selective services, PJs, clearance of “C code” 
  • Check NSLDS for students federal aid loan history 
  • Review pending files and moving students to pending enrollment 
  • Follow up on internal/external issues
  • Review classes and following up with students who are on our wait-list 
  • Conduct Exit Counseling interviews 
  • Keep abreast with Federal regulations by attending seminars/workshops on-line as well as offsite


Qualifications

  • Associate degree is preferred but will train candidates that show initiative and are fast learners
  • May not be in default on federal student loans or owe repayment on a federal grant.
  • At least two (2) years of prior-related financial aid work experience - Title IV aid administration/knowledge is required. Intermediate and above experience with MS Office, Excel, and capable of independently researching on government sites as well as the internet
  • Knowledge of CampusVue is required
  • Adept communicator with a diverse population and comfortable counseling in person, over the phone and via email
  • Willing to work evenings, Saturdays and some holidays
  • Must be comfortable wearing many hats with a can do attitude, we are a small department in a growing school
