Job Description

IPR News Radio seeks a summer intern June-August  to help cover northern Michigan in 2015. We are looking for someone with solid reporting experience and a strong background in arts and culture. The candidate must be familiar with recording and editing equipment and have a solid knowledge of social media and the role of the digital space in content distribution. Knowledge of the standards of public radio journalism is also important. We will train the right candidate.

An experience at IPR will be invaluable to any aspiring public radio journalist. You will quickly be given as much responsibility as you can handle to help maintain our broadcast and produce valuable news. We need a self-starting creative individual who likes to dig into issues and tell compelling stories. You will be encouraged and supported in your work.  

Duties include:
  • Reporting on issues and events assigned by the news director
  • Helping manage digital content
  • Producing work related to IPR News Radio’s daily broadcast and IPR’s classical music service
  • Identifying and produce enterprise stories
  • Other duties as assigned
Interlochen Public Radio serves Northwest Lower Michigan with news and classical music. The services are owned by Interlochen Center for the Arts, an arts education organization that has been in operation for 85 years and was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2006, the nation’s highest honor for artistic excellence.  


Interlochen is near Traverse City, in a region that is constantly being recognized as a national travel destination and great place to live. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore was voted the most beautiful place in America by ABC’s Sunday morning audience.

Qualifications

  • Reporting experience and a strong background in arts and culture
  • Familiar with recording and editing equipment
  • Knowledge of social media and the role of the digital space in content distribution
  • Knowledge of the standards of public radio journalism is also important

Compensation:

Meals and lodging are included along with a stipend
