Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Carrying out anti-poaching patrols as directed
  • Monitoring illegal activities, fire and water management
  • Being involved in game capture and translocation of animals
  • Collecting data whilst in the field for patrol and other management activities
  • Collecting information on illegal activities and submit such information for strategic planning
  • Attending to problem animals and plant invasive species
  • Ensuring that all offenders are brought to book
  • Providing information to members of the public on how to deal with animal/human conflicts
  • Involvement in tree impact assessments, aerial surveys and fixed-point photography
  • Conducting regular wildlife census and monitoring population dynamics
  • Assisting in the maintenance of park infrastructure, including fences, roads, and water points
  • Participating in community outreach programmes to promote conservation awareness
  • Providing guided tours and educational talks to visitors when required
  • Assisting in wildlife research projects and collaborating with scientific teams
  • Maintaining and operating field equipment, including vehicles, radios, and GPS devices

 

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the environment and behaviours of wild animals
  • At least Certificate in Ordinary level of Education
  • Prior work experience in a similar role would be an added advantage
  • Able to pass a basic health screening including physical exams
  • Excellent physical fitness and stamina to conduct long patrols in challenging terrain
  • Proficiency in using GPS devices, radios, and other field equipment
  • Valid driver's licence and experience driving 4x4 vehicles in off-road conditions
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently when required
  • Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages would be beneficial
  • Basic first aid certification
  • Demonstrated passion for wildlife conservation and environmental protection
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
