Job Description

Summer 2025 Internship Program: 

  • Applications Close: December 6th at 11:59pm ET. Pro Tip: Submit your application as soon as possible – applications could close earlier due to applicant volume!  

  • Program Dates: June 2 – August 8, 2025 

  • Time Commitment: 40 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.  

  • Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from New York, NY.

  • Upload a transcript (unofficial transcripts are fine) that confirms your status as an actively enrolled student in a degree-granting program. 

Content Distribution: Content Distribution is a division of NBCUniversal that drives the North American distribution of the company's multi-billion-dollar television portfolio to cable, satellite and telco providers, as well as live streaming services, and other digital platforms. A key revenue-generator, the division oversees the distribution of NBC and Telemundo owned stations, all of NBCUniversal's cable entertainment, news and sports networks, and the Olympics. The group also leads the content strategy and development for offerings that include video-on-demand (VOD) and TV Everywhere (TVE), and handles distribution of the Peacock and other NBCU apps. 

Corporate Functions: NBCUniversal's Corporate groups are uniquely positioned at the core of our organization.  Employees within these groups use their area of expertise to support all businesses across the company, keeping the heart of each brand at the forefront. There are also business-specific opportunities available, which may be included in the descriptions below.   

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Content Distribution Legal: The Content Distribution Legal intern will support the Content Distribution group, gaining the opportunity to research regulatory and other materials to inform legal decisions, help draft and assist with the drafting of contracts, notices, and other required material, and support the legal team in preparing presentations for company-facing communications. 

  • Corporate Legal Rotational: The NBCU Legal Function is hosting a Legal Rotational Experience for law students interested in Entertainment Law. This program is designed to positively impact diversity in the legal profession. The Legal Rotational Experience will be a program that provides training, exposure, and opportunities to law students. Interns will work in one Corporate Legal group and one Business Legal group during the course of the 10-week internship. Responsibilities may include assisting team members with drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of legal agreements, providing timely and thorough analysis on potential risks and issues while proposing practical, responsive solutions, and identifying and implementing improvements to forms and processes. 

  • Corporate Legal - NBCU News Group: The NBCUniversal News Group Media Law team supports NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, NBCU Local, Telemundo, E! News and Access Hollywood. We empower journalists to publish as much fair and accurate information in the public interest as possible by providing newsgathering advice, pre-publication and pre-broadcast review and newsroom training. We also prepare and negotiate media law agreements (e.g. releases, location agreements), assist with rights management across platforms, support tentpole events (e.g. elections, Olympics), advise on subpoenas, and partner with the Litigation team. News Group interns will assist in all of these areas, with a focus on researching defamation, privacy, IP, newsgathering, access, privilege and regulatory questions. 

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: 

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (June 2025 through August 2025). May 2025 graduates are not eligible for our Summer 2025 Internship Program. 

  • Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing.  

  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States. 

  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY. 

For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.  

NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.   

Desired Characteristics: 

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 

  • Self-starter, professional, and ability to adapt.   

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.   

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.) 

  • For Corporate Legal: Current class standing of 1L or above preferred. 

  • For Corporate Legal News Group: Coursework or experience in First Amendment, media law and copyright preferred; Interest in the broadcast, cable, and digital news space. 

The hourly rate for law student interns is $25.00.
