As a member of the Technology Team, you'll be responsible for improving our existing applications (which are visited by over 10 million pet parents each month), building engaging new consumer experiences, and helping to build a world-class engineering culture.

We’re looking for a Data Warehouse Engineer to contribute to the data warehouse design and data preparation batch processes by implementing a solid, robust, extensible design that supports key business flows.

While we're looking for an individual that can handle emergencies, the ideal candidate will have a strong dedication to process, standardization, security, documentation, and minimizing the risk of emergency situations. Such an individual should view producing good documentation and maintaining tight configuration management as mission critical activities. Position needs to exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results. This position requires a self starter, willing to take on large and small challenges while operating under minimal supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• On-going maintenance - Quickly assess the impact of production system changes to the existing analytics and implement changes to the warehouse ETL and reporting code to ensure consistent and accurate reporting.

• Build a scalable, high performance data warehouse used for complex reporting and analytics, utilizing current generation tools including data warehouse appliances and software.

• Define and develop ETL and lead complex data warehouse initiatives.

• Work with operations team on escalation and data integrity issues as they arise, provide audit ability and insight into the structure and data flow path through the business intelligence platform.

• Responsible for integrating quality data into the warehouse.

• Develops auditing processes to insure data accuracy and consistency

• Architect logical and physical data models and scalable data warehouse platforms.

• Develop and implement SQL standards, procedures and keeping data dictionary and model up-to-date.

• Responsible for data modeling, developing data catalog, meta data and data dictionary.

• Review all database objects for data integrity, quality, recoverability, scalability, maintenance, and capacity.

• Working with business users, understand their needs for information, work with them directly on solutions, and educate them during the process.

• Plans, develops and implements strategic and tactical business intelligence initiatives

• Establish efficient design and programming patterns for engineers as well as for non-technical people.

• Documents technical standards.

• Create detailed specification documents related to data designs.

Competencies:

• 5+ years of experience in data warehousing; at least 3 years full life-cycle business intelligence implementations.

• Ability to design, model, build, and deploy data warehouse solutions using business intelligence life cycle development leading practices.

• Demonstrate successful experience in design, creation, and implementation of an enterprise data warehouse.

• Excellent knowledge of relational database management systems and data warehousing, which includes logical modeling, physical database design, data sourcing and data transformation, data loading, data cleansing, and end-user tools.

• Strong ETL design & development experience with at least one industry recognized ETL tool, such as PDI/Kettle, KETL or Informatica.

• Strong knowledge of multi-dimensional modeling and data architecture, using tools such as SQL Power Architect or ERwin.

• Experience working with OLAP and data development tools.

• Strong data modeling skills (Normalized and Multidimensional for Data Marts, including Star Schema, Snow-Flake Modeling, Fact and Dimensional Modeling).

• In-depth knowledge of Postgres or MySQL databases.

• Experienced implementing data warehouses using PostgreSQL or MySQL.

• Problem solving and meta-data skills, analyze query plans, indexes, and locking behavior.

• Experience writing, analyzing and optimizing SQL code, stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and indexes.

• Strong understanding of how data structures satisfy and relate to business functions.

• Proficiency in scripting languages (shell, Python, Perl).

• Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.

• Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
