Job Description

The Superintendent of Utilities is responsible for continuous generation and timely distribution of steam, electric power, and the supply, treatment, timely distribution of the water for the Chillicothe Mill.  Also includes the direct supervision of the wastewater treatment facility.  This position is a key leadership position in the organization and an important contributor to the facility successfully meeting financial performance targets.

Accountabilities

·         Manage a salaried staff of three (3) Area Managers, four (4) shift supervisors and a highly skilled hourly workforce of approximately 60 employees; 

·         Generation of 70 MWH of internally generated power, 1.4 million lbs. per hour of steam, and the supply and treatment of 30 million gallons/day of water influent and effluent; 

·         Safe and efficient operation of steam/power generation assets which include two (2) high pressure natural gas fired boilers, one (1) high pressure wood-waste boiler, one (1) high pressure black liquor recovery boiler, and four (4) turbine generators and electrical distribution equipment;

·         Reliable operation of nine (9) water wells, pumping stations, water filtering and softening plants, primary and secondary waste water treatment and solid waste processing; 

·         Operating all equipment in full compliance with all air emission and water discharge environmental regulations;

·         Efficient spend of a significant annual operating budget including the planning and execution of major equipment outages on schedule and within budget. 

Qualifications

·         At least five (5) years’ experience with power generation facilities of a large industrial plant or utility;

·         Two to three (2-3) years’ experience in management, including supervisory responsibility; 

·         Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Power Engineering, or a related discipline;

·         Pro-active skills in problem identification and developing solutions;

·         Ability to handle multiple tasks and organize a group of people to accomplish those tasks;

·         Ability to safely and efficiently cope with stressful operating situations;

·         Highly self-motivated
