Job Description
We currently have an opening for a Leave of Absence Manager in our Human Resources Department located in Plano, TX.
The successful candidate is responsible for managing the organization’s leave of absence programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including ADA, FMLA, and related employment laws. This role collaborates with third-party administrators (TPA), manages the interactive process for reasonable accommodations, and provides guidance on restrictions and accommodations. The ideal candidate will enhance operational efficiency, ensure compliance, and create a positive employee experience.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end administration of leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, short-term and long-term disability, parental leave, and state-specific leave policies.
- Collaborate with TPAs to ensure accurate and efficient leave administration, monitor service levels, and address escalated cases as needed.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of and ensure compliance with all applicable leave and accommodation regulations.
- Lead the interactive process to evaluate and implement reasonable accommodations under ADA and related laws.
- Work with employees, managers, HR business partners, and legal counsel to assess restrictions and develop solutions that align with business operations.
- Document accommodation requests, outcomes, and ongoing case updates in accordance with legal and organizational guidelines.
- Stay current with trends and changes in federal, state, and local leave and accommodation laws, including FMLA, ADA, and state equivalents.
- Provide metrics and reports on leave utilization, accommodations, and program performance to senior leadership.
- Train managers and employees on leave processes, the interactive process, and the company’s approach to accommodations.
- Serve as a resource for guidance on restrictions, return-to-work strategies, and other accommodation-related needs.
- Handle escalated leave and accommodation cases with a focus on timely resolution and employee satisfaction.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, payroll, workers comp and operations, to align leave and accommodation strategies with business needs.
- Build relationships with external vendors, such as TPAs, to enhance program quality and resolve complex cases.
- Strong ability to drive process enhancements through automation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration and/or Human Resources Preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years of increasingly responsible experience in HR professional level with disability & leave management, claim review, ADA, return to work programs and vendor management.
- Experience working for a third-party disability vendor (STD, FMLA or Workers Compensation) and overall claim management experience.
- Strong analytical experience with managerial reporting required.
- Solid experience in the analysis, interpretation and presentation of performance measures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer-service orientation with good follow-through.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot system-related issues.
- Proficiency in MS suite of products (Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS software.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and jobs to meet deadlines.
- Adaptable and flexible dealing with change.
- Strong capacity for operating in a flexible, dynamic environment where creative thinking is required.
- Strong working knowledge of employment laws and practices; California Labor Code provisions pertaining to WC, Cal/OSHA regulations, federal and state laws related to family leaves and disability.

Public Storage teammates are expected to work in the office five days each week with the option to take up to three flexible remote days per month.
