Job Description

The Production Planning Supervisor is responsible to oversee the entire production planning section of the print/production plant. The position will serve as the main point of contact for internal and external sales reps and customer service reps in relation to the overall production schedule for any given project.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for each job's entire
  • production schedule. Including but not limited to prepress/proofing, paper purchasing, press dates, bindery, kitting, mailing and any outside purchases for both conventional and digital workflow that may be required. Typically plan for equipment and jobs that are more complex in nature.
  • Optimize workflow by matching the equipment capabilities closely to the specification of the customer work. Re-schedule work as needed to different slots/equipment in the event of unplanned situations such as last-minute opportunities, equipment failures, missing components or raw materials, etc. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of equipment and capabilities at other RRD plants in southwest region to re-route work as needed.
  • Responsible for the daily production schedules and/or run lists in each production department by coordinating available staffing and equipment availability and make adjustments when needed.
  • Lead the daily production meeting ensuring that the active list is up-to-date and that the disposition of each job's schedule is clearly communicated to the customer service representative and/or sales.
  • Evaluate estimates to ensure that the quotes match the current print specifications and reporting anomalies to senior management as needed.
  • Coordinate with the department managers, planning and any outside vendors to ensure that each job is being produced at the lowest cost.

Qualifications

  • Able to demonstrate good problem-solving skills and appropriately apply proven solutions
  • Ability to formulate and execute time-sensitive decisions related to schedules in order to meet client demands
  • Consistently deliver prescribed outcomes in a timely and accurate manner with appropriate guidance
  • Apply existing processes and procedures to solve problems and may receive guidance for problems that are non-routine
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must have advanced knowledge of technology to include database applications and software such as MS Office
  • Requires knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn specialized software related to the position, particularly scheduling software. Knowledge of systems such as Monarch and Metrics preferred
  • Must have proven supervisory skills. Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Able to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people when completing work assignments
  • Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and prioritize workload
  • Ability to maintain good attendance
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required
  • 5 or more years experience scheduling in a manufacturing function, preferably for a printing operation

The national pay range for this role is $62,800 to $111,400 annually. The pay range may be slightly lower or higher based on the geographic location of the hired employee. The actual pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
