Job Description

The Agribusiness Advisor will be responsible for supporting the adoption of Productive Use of Energy (PUE) technologies and Energy services by the smallholder farmers, vendors, local entrepreneurs, and service providers in the dairy value chain. S/he will support PUE based activities and extension systems for adoption and scaling. S/he will work in coordination with the lead project advisor to contribute to cost/benefit analyses of the supported business cases to show the increased productivity of the small holder farmers, that are supported through these business cases. This will include supervision and piloting of the financial incentives provided to the business cases. The incumbent will provide support to small holder farmers, cooperatives, and vendors on the most appropriate PUE integration strategies, which will enhance the incomes for small holder farmers vendors, cooperatives and other stakeholders involved in the dairy value chain. S/he will support the management and supervision of local extension providers in the business cases. S/he will contribute to the learning agenda of the project as part of the knowledge development& management portfolio.

The selected candidate will have following key responsibilities:

Major Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Productive use of energy technological assessments to identify the most appropriate PUE for adoption by the small-scale farmers and or vendors.
  • Support the training and coaching of extension service providers on PUE practices and technology adoption.
  • Support extension service providers in delivering needs-based and practical trainings to male, female, and young farmers.
  • Support the testing of profitable PUE technologies with smallholder farmers
  • Support technical field-based missions from the multi-country project manager.
  • Support small holder farmers and vendors in the promotion, market uptake and scaling of evidence-based PUE technologies.
  • Support the integration of PUE solutions in agribusinesses.
  • Support the implementation of business cases using PUE technologies.
  • Contribute to the scaling of the learning agenda, knowledge development and exchange between participating countries.

Qualifications

  • A relevant university Degree in Agriculture farming systems.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience of working in a similar sector.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of PUE technologies and the linkage / application in the dairy sector.
  • Experience in famer extension, SME advising, and agribusiness case development.
  • Experience in the application of the PUE technologies in the dairy sector and financial analysis of PUE technologies will be a plus.
  • Experience working with female entrepreneurs and gender integration approaches, as well as young-Agri-entrepreneurs.
  • Knowledge of PUE innovations and farmer adoption.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), reporting and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel to all project locations
  • Working knowledge of Runyankole or Runyakitara will be an added advantage.
