Purpose of the job
Under the general supervision of the Accounting Coordinator, the Accounting Officer is responsible for quality of day-to-day financial recording on SAP By design (SBD), primarily focusing on supporting quality of periodic and Ad hoc financial reports and, enforcing of internal controls while executing financial transactions.
Job Description
- Implements financial policies and procedures.
- Review financial documents for accuracy, completeness and compliance to the Organization’s Policies and procedures. Inform the responsible person/unit of any documentation omissions and follow up on them.
- Weekly review SBD procure-to-pay three-way matching; ensure correction of any inaccuracies.
- Post salaries on time in the system.
- Post recurring Journal entry vouchers for amortization of prepayments and provisions.
- Post all intercompany invoices on time (both customer and supplier invoices)
- Perform a monthly WHT run.
- Perform a monthly GR/IR run.
- Review balance sheet accounts, correct errors, and clear open items on weekly basis before closing the month.
- Asset capitalization and disposal in SBD
- Collaborate with Logistic and operations team to make sure assets registered in SBD are physically available, and all assets are capitalized in SBD as per Asset management policy.
- Perform all financial month end activities before closing the month (vehicle allocation process, salary allocation and facility allocation, invoicing fixed tariffs, month end project income accruals)
- Review Accounts payable ageing analysis and clear open items on monthly basis and support business control-grants team to make sure partners reports are posted on time before closing the month.
- Perform month end checklist before closing the month and share with coordinator for review before CFM reviews.
- Work on the monthly review feedback from Global accounting team on time.
- Perform extensive closure and year end closure submission to global team as required by corporate calendar.
- Coordinate and provide all required documents and information to auditors during country audit and global corporate audit.
- Provide supporting documents and clarifications for project audits when needed and requires accounting clarity (e.g salary related costs, allocated costs, amortizations, and provisions.
- Maintains proper filing of financial data and ensures that all files are properly backed up.
- Identify and clear transactions with exchange rate difference by preparing appropriate Journal vouchers for the difference.
- Make sure that all financial transactions are posted in the system.
- Provide input on Country Finance report on Balance sheet review.
- Support in preparation of Annual accounts for audit purposes.

- Keeps up to date with recent developments in the sector, government regulations including best practice.
- Ensures ongoing personal development and learning.
- Ensures the communication of finance policies and procedures within the organisation, and with other stakeholders.
- Observe internal SNV deadlines and be able to have an effective communication.
- Be proactive and invert and advise new efficient ways to improve our systems especially in relation to accounting.
- Be up to date on new accounting regulations and reporting standards.
Qualifications
A) Education
Required:
- BA degree in accounting/ finance
Desired:
- Training on Computerized Accounting.
B) Experience
Required:
- A minimum of 5 years in similar positions
Desired:
- Experience in the NGO sector.
C) Technical Skills
- Required:
- Proficiency in computer (Word, Excel & Access).
- Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
- Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, conceptual understanding of participatory approach and sustainable development.
- Proactive and efficient on performing your tasks.

Additional Information
Contract Type: National
Expected start date: As soon as possible
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Contract Duration: Eight months with the possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.
