Job Description

As the Supplier Quality Engineer, you drive and manage performance of your supply base from a QDCF-TSR standpoint.  You will be part of a team of supplier development colleagues focused on addressing low-performing suppliers that have traditionally impact operations.  You will focus on providing strong supplier technical assistance.  The supplier concern areas are heavily focused on unhealthy quality systems, lack of technical resources, and an inability to find quick and sustainable solutions when production processes become abnormal.  Primarily, the mission is to return the suppliers back to health and install a zero tolerance focus at the supplier for impacting company operations or customer satisfaction.

Furthermore, when required, the mission is also to support resourcing activities away from troubled suppliers.  You will also promote a strong collaboration between Supplier Development and the rest of SQ&D and GTP.  This extends globally thereby capitalizing on global knowledge and competence sharing within SQ&D.

As Supplier Quality Engineer, you are expected to support all activities that ensure a continuous flow of quality part supply to our Plants. In addition, this role must also attempt to minimize the low cost. During supplier development and technical assistance missions, the engineer must choose the right approach, depth, focus, techniques, and lessons learned, to properly address situations. Each supplier development opportunity may be unique.

Job Responsibilities

  • Actively engaged with the company suppliers and supply chains.
  • Ability to accurately assess supplier weaknesses and provide solutions.
  • Monitor high risk supplier development issues to prevent crisis at our company operations.
  • Able to analyze supplier capacity and supplier investment requests.
  • Drive and develop supplier problem solving techniques for identified supplier fault issues.
  • Fix and develop supplier quality systems and processes to prevent impact to company operations.
  • Drive supplier operational excellence and zero-defect philosophies.
  • Set focused priorities to reach objectives.
  • Work in accordance with the GTP processes, the code of conduct, and the company way.
  • Represent GTP at suppliers and escalate as needed to prevent crisis at our company operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Business Management, or Supply Chain Management is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Supplier Quality, Supply Chain, or Supplier Development experience in the automotive or heavy commercial truck industry, preferably with an OEM or Tier 1 Supplier.
  • Proficient with Quality tools, including Capacity Evaluation (R@R, SPR, Bottleneck Analysis), PPAP, APQP, Problem Solving, and SPC.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering, supplier development, or crisis management.
  • Strong problem solving, communication, collaboration, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Strong accountability and project management skills to accomplish tasks without close supervision.
