Head of Open Source Programs, TBD
- Full-time
Company Description
Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.
Founded in July 2021, TBD is Square's newest business unit. Our team is building an open developer platform and primitives to help unlock the next wave of innovation in financial services — which we believe will be decentralized, permissionless, and non-custodial. As such, we will eschew custodial and traditional centralized approaches — and instead, shape Square's strategy in building for a non-custodial world, embracing the decentralized and democratized nature of crypto. The offerings we build will provide developers, institutions, and individuals with the capabilities needed to access this decentralized future. Our vision is to leverage bitcoin and other blockchain technologies to reinvent the global financial system in an open and permissionless way to further Square's mission of economic empowerment and financial inclusion for all, with a global focus.
Job Description
As Head of Open Source Programs, you and the team that you build will be the face of TBD with the crypto developer community. You will lead TBD's efforts to build an open source developer strategy, playbook, and team from the ground up. Your work will foster a community inspired by TBD's approach and drive developer love and engagement with the platform primitives, products, and services that TBD builds for the world.
Your team will help the community — from individual developers to startups and established financial institutions — understand and relate to the open source solutions that TBD offers. You'll lead the conversation and inspire individuals and institutions to build meaningful solutions with TBD’s protocols and services that further our mission of economic empowerment globally.
You are a proven leader who is comfortable with ambiguity, excited to learn about new domains and rapidly evolving technologies, has a track record of building a diverse and inclusive team, and thrives in a culture of principled risk taking. You will report directly to the General Manager of TBD.

Build TBD’s developer community team
Define and execute the strategy for TBD's open source / developer community programs
Present a vision and represent TBD with external stakeholders, while collaboratively addressing complex and sensitive community issues with strong judgment and foresight

Communicate, influence, and engage across a variety of audiences, through multiple mediums: conferences, speaking engagements, and various media
Stay up to date with the latest developments in crypto and decentralized financial services, engage with promising teams and projects, and share insights with the broader TBD team
Quickly scale the learning curve on new subject areas across domains and technologies
Manage ambiguity with comfort in a shifting and evolving environment
