Job Description
As part of the newly formed Design Systems team, you will be the first engineer to join the design team. You’ll have the opportunity to build our design system manager, an internal product and toolkit, in collaboration with client and partner engineers that sit in Cash App’s Operating System group. In an effort to codify our design infrastructure, this role is critical to the success of scaling our brand and product offering.
You will:
- Build the Cash App Design System infrastructure in collaboration with our partners on the client engineering teams.
- Work with system designers to establish our token and library infrastructure. This can be managed in the design system manager and exposed across our brand ecosystem (mobile native, web, third party platforms, various creative/design software)
- Collaborate with systems designers and our org wide partners to build, document, and design elements into the design system on an ongoing basis
- Work with our Client Server Interaction and client platform teams to establish and maintain automatic deployment and versioning of the Design Systems library.
- Build tooling solutions and integrations with various design software systems to push/pull updates from the design system
- Establish automated testing protocols to ensure system benchmarks are met for stability, accessibility, semantic consistency, and g11n/i18n while codifying system objects.
- Establish API & code review processes with engineering partners
- Work with our Customer Data Services & Globalization teams to build design software plugins that automate or expedite design tasks around content population and localization/translation
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience working in software development or equivalent experience
- 1+ years experience working in an explicit design systems engineering role
- Experience successfully building design systems at scale within a large product organization with demonstrated experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Proficiency with current UI and product workflow tools (figma, airtable, notion, etc.)
- Experience working with distributed teams in multiple time zones and an affinity for designing and facilitating asynchronous collaborative work
- Past work experience showcasing the ability to define major system workstreams, communicate a plan and success measurement framework, and then execute
- A passion for learning new technologies and dot connecting design infrastructure to automate aspects of the design and development process
- Experience working with token workflows utilizing CSS/SCSS, React or an equivalent display layer framework
Even better:
- Experience working with creative & art directors, motion designers, audio designers, and illustrators as well as product designers, engineers, and product managers
- A portfolio showcasing experiences you’ve built for varying platforms and devices (iOS, Android, Responsive Web, etc)
- Experience working with JavaScript animation frameworks like Lottie
- Past experimentation scripting SVG scaling and manipulation
