Square Terminal API allows developers to connect Square Terminal to their custom point of sale (POS) systems, no matter which platforms or operating systems they’re developed on. With Terminal API, sellers can benefit from Square’s hardware devices and payments offering, while continuing to use the point-of-sale system that best meets their needs. For developers, Terminal API helps manage the complexities of payment processing, including security and compliance, so that developers can focus on building a world-class product. This opens up millions of opportunities to onboard small to medium-sized businesses to the Square ecosystem.

As a backend engineer, you will help us redesign and build the core services at Square related to device identification, information reporting, and configuration, allowing sellers to view, monitor, and remotely configure their suite of Square devices. You will work with Android engineers and fellow Backend engineers to develop new features and improve on the existing experiences, and in the process, contribute to one of Square’s fastest growing products. 

As a software engineer on the Web Payment Experience team, you will…

• Work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and design teams across Square to ensure a consistent and clear developer experience

• Design and implement high-volume, low-latency, distributed transaction processing systems, making thoughtful tradeoffs between consistency and availability when both are not possible

• Mentor other engineers and contribute to the direction of the team

• Build experiences for thousands of developers and millions of Square Merchants

• See the big picture to design robust experiences so the team can be brave and move fast, without showing a negative impact to customers 

• Build systems that manage customers’ sensitive data and hold Square to the highest standards for security and compliance

You Have:

• A desire to build Square's developer platform, where we succeed when our merchants and developers succeed

• Experience with and an understanding of how to successfully lead complex projects, breaking down the work into components and milestones that can easily be picked up by other engineers

• A deep enjoyment for writing and shipping production software

• The ability to identify ways to quickly prototype complex ideas

• A desire to focus on delighting our customers
