Job Description

We’re seeking an exceptional engineering leader to head our new Product Reliability abstraction, which encompasses Cash App’s reliability programs, policies, procedures, tooling, and frameworks. As the Head of Product Reliability Engineering, you will collaborate closely with our Block foundational platform reliability team and Cash’s Engineering Operations & program management teams. Your mission will be to ensure that every team within Cash App contributes to building products and platforms that meet our customers' reliability expectations. You will be responsible for building and supporting teams handling product site reliability engineering (SRE), incident management, regulatory reporting, disaster recovery, business continuity planning, automated production testing, and more. This role requires determining optimal team placements across Block to address Cash App’s customer needs. We value diversity and encourage talent from varied perspectives to apply.

You Will:

  • Drive the execution of the Product Reliability strategy for Cash App.

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineering leads, and stakeholders on planning, including annual planning, quarterly business reviews, and OKRs.

  • Lead a growing engineering organization focused on reliability which includes building a product site reliability function from the ground up. 

  • Develop and maintain reliability programs, policies, procedures, and frameworks.

  • Build and maintain observability tools.

  • Partner with product engineering teams on capacity planning, load testing, and to drive reliability improvements.

  • Drive cultural change to prioritize reliability in product development.

  • Advocate for Cash in Block-wide forums and industry conferences.

Qualifications

You Have: 

  • 14+ years of Software Engineering experience.

  • 8+ years of Engineering Management experience, including leading other managers.

  • Experience leading engineering teams focused on product reliability 

  • Experience working with compliance/council partners to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to influence senior leadership on technical matters.

  • Advocacy for underrepresented communities within tech.

Even Better:

  • Experience in Fintech, Banking, or another highly regulated industry.

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $304,500 - USD $456,700
Zone B: USD $304,500 - USD $456,700
Zone C: USD $304,500 - USD $456,700
Zone D: USD $304,500 - USD $456,700
