Job Description

Are you passionate about solving complex data challenges? Cash App is looking for a Data Engineer to join our Engineering Operations team. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the availability, accuracy, and reliability of data that drives our engineering excellence initiatives.

As a Data Engineer on the EngOps team, you'll collaborate with cross-functional partners, including Engineering, Product, and Operations, to design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines. Your work will empower our teams with the insights needed to optimize system performance, enhance operational efficiency, and support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of engineering operations at Cash App to design and build data pipelines that surface meaningful insights and opportunities for improvement.

  • Collaborate with BI and Data Analysts to deliver outcomes.

  • Create clear documentation, such as data dictionaries and model diagrams.  

  • Partner with Engineering and Product Managers to understand the impact of new initiatives on operational data and ensure accurate data flow.

  • Identify new data sources and build pipelines to integrate them into our data ecosystem.

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of ETL processes to ensure timely, reliable, and scalable data pipelines.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines to identify and resolve issues, ensuring data integrity and availability.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define data requirements and translate them into effective engineering solutions.

  • Respond to queries from internal engineering teams regarding the underlying data in dashboards.

Qualifications

The ideal Data Engineer for this role:

  • Has 4+ years of experience solving complex data problems, with a focus on building and optimizing ETL pipelines.

  • Is highly proficient in writing SQL to query relational databases and working with data warehousing solutions.

  • Has experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery) and orchestration tools like Airflow.

  • Is capable of prioritizing and delivering work independently, with a focus on iterative development.

  • Excels at communicating technical concepts in a clear, precise, and actionable manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Has a proven track record of leading data engineering projects with high business impact.
