The Tax Specialist for UK collaborates with Group Tax and other functions to prepare the annual local Transfer Pricing Documentation, CCO compliance and supports the Finance Managers with SAO requirements. Additionally, it is part of the job to provide guidance to the accounting team on how to process invoices and transactions in Statkraft ERP in order to maximize automation and reduce the risks of errors on Tax and VAT fillings.

The Tax Specialist for UK also maintains a very close communication with Group Tax and Finance Managers for respective companies, discussing tax treatment for UK companies and raising potential issues for discussion.

The purpose of this job is to execute and ensure effective and correct tax compliance for Statkraft UK based companies in scope for service delivery from EAC UK, including but not limited to computation and fillings of CIT (Corporation Tax), VAT returns and other indirect taxes that might be applied for the companies in scope.

Job Description

  • Calculate quarterly instalment payments for UK Corporation Tax and submit request for payment according to the Statkraft payment process
  • Preparation of the UK Corporation Tax computations and returns
  • Responsible for filing the UK Corporation Tax computations and returns within the statutory deadlines
  • Working with Group Tax in respect of any HMRC queries, audits and/or business risk review processes
  • Collaborate with Group Tax and other functions to prepare the annual local TP documentation
  • Support with SAO and CCO compliance and work with Group Tax to ensure appropriate controls and monitoring are in place.
  • Lead with all correspondence and liaison with HRMC on query resolution
  • Calculate and prepare monthly CIT G/L postings in the ERP system
  • Prepare Tax Forms for quarterly and yearly Group Financial Reporting Process explaining Tax spends YTD between deferred and current taxes on the PnL, and changes in the tax assets and liabilities positions for both current and deferred, including impacts of off-balance deferred taxes position
  • Ensure all external and internal deliverables related to tax compliance are done timely and according to applicable regulations and controls
  • Prepare Tax notes for Statutory Accounting according to IFRS and FRS101
  • Prepare reconciliation for CIT G/L accounts in the reconciliation system Blackline
  • Perform internal controls in BWise system regarding direct and indirect taxes
  • Contribute in continuous improvement of accounting and tax processes
  • Review reconciliation of indirect taxes G/L accounts in the reconciliation system Blackline
  • Review and approve VAT returns (and other indirect taxes) before submission to HMRC
  • Registration of new companies for VAT
  • Support the accounting team with how to account for transactions accordingly, avoiding the need of adjustment in the accounting books when tax returns are prepared and submitted
  • Maximize the use of technology for tax computation, keeping the end-to-end tax process in the ERPs in the extent possible
  • Work closely with Group Tax UK and Finance Managers, keeping them informed about the aspects of tax computations and returns for companies in scope, and involving them in complex business transactions affecting direct and indirect taxes

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with computing, preparing and filling tax returns for Corporation Tax, VAT and other Indirect taxes as applicable for UK companies
  • Proven experience working with tax reporting in a multinational organisation
  • Relevant accounting qualification (CTA, ACA, ACCA)
  • Post qualification experience with Corporation Tax including calculation for quarterly returns to group and authorities
  • Good knowledge of VAT rules and withholding Taxes. Good understanding of IFRS and accounting practices in the UK for Tax disclosures
  • Experience with Senior Accounting Officer and CCO compliance
  • Experience with ERPs, preferably SAP (FI/CO), OneSource, Cognos, Onestream and Workiva
  • Good understanding of business processes, experience within the energy sector to be considered an advantage
