Job Description

Statkraft is ramping up its growth ambitions in the hydro category with a current development portfolio of around 1.5 BNOK which we are aiming to bring to an investment decision annually. Due to the large portfolio of refurbishment and greenfield projects, we are currently strengthening the organization to enable to delivery of a significant ramp-up in activities. Hydropower equipment is a business-critical category for Statkraft, with a strong local focus in the Nordics in an increasingly supplier-led market. Therefore, all sourcing-related activities in this market must be optimised to ensure our competitive edge. 

As our category manager, you will influence the development of sustainable value creation in all critical procurement activities within the hydro equipment category for greenfield and refurbishment projects in the Nordics and elsewhere across Europe. You will have a holistic view and influence over Statkraft's project management & project procurement, sustainable supply chain, strategy, modelling, cost of energy, business development and technical teams. The category manager will draw upon their experience and external contact base manage supplier relationships, drive the adoption of new technologies, contracting models & working methodologies, as well as implement lessons learned from projects and with suppliers. 

The role requires a strategic perspective, and a strong commercial mindset in order to support the company’s growth strategy in the hydropower category.  

Your role is to

  • Developing and maintaining category strategies for all major hydropower equipment including but not limited to generators/large rotating machines, turbines, automation and hydraulic steel works in the Nordics, both for greenfield and refurbishments, as well as develop specific strategies in other regions as required.
  • Lead, develop, coach and drive improvements to enable effective, professional and sustainable procurement in executing the strategies.
  • Build and lead cross-functional category teams in a matrix organization.
  • Being the category expert advising and supporting project teams and management on critical issues throughout the procurement process and project execution phase.
  • Managing strategic supplier relations for all subcategories in hydropower, as well as for related equipment. This includes acting as an escalation point for the most critical project-specific issues. 
  • Utilize systems and tools to analyze and follow up on the execution of category strategies, as well as inform project procurement managers of existing relationships and risks in the whole supply chain.

Competence requirements 

  • Fluent in Norwegian and English.
  • Relevant professional experience within hydropower in procurement, related equipment sales, engineering, project or contract management of at least 7 years.
  • In depth knowledge of the supplier market regarding relevant hydropower subcategories.

The position is based at Statkraft HQ in Oslo. The Category Manager reports to the VP Category Management and New Energy Solutions, Mat Scarborough.
