Job Description

As a Gerts’ Bartender, the individual must make a positive contribution to the operations of Gerts Bar. The Bartender must ensure that all members of the McGill community receive prompt and courteous service, and assist in promoting events held at the bar.  The Lead Bartender will also be responsible for overseeing the operations and daily functions of the bar and service areas while on duty.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1)    Serve food and drinks to clients in a timely and professional manner;

 

2)    Maintain the cleanliness of the work environment, including all bar surfaces, tables, back bar area and stock area;

 

3)    Ensure that the bar is equipped with the appropriate stock and supplies for the duration of the shift as well as the following shift;

 

4)    Ensure that all cash, debit, and credit card transactions balance with AZbar and Azpos sales figures and reports;

 

5)    Inform the Administrative Gerts Manager of any stock shortages and report any broken or missing equipment;

 

6)    Inform students about the policies regarding bookings from faculties, clubs or others and direct them to the Operations Bar Manager for further information;

 

7)    Serve SSMU functions in other SSMU venues by completing inventory, serving clientele and completing closing cash out. Follow SSMU and Quebec liquor regulations.

 

8)    Respect and follow building and SSMU regulations and by-laws.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS LEAD BARTENDER:

 

1)    Act as a receptionist for clients needing information who call or come into the bar.

 

2)    Set-up and make adjustments to the environment (such as setting up sound/music and tvs) at the beginning of the day and throughout the day when needed.

 

3)    Set-up and serve reservations and group bookings as needed.

 

4)    Stock and prepare the service areas before the shift begins.

 

5)    Create an organization system for behind the bar and re-set to this system daily.

 

6)    Supervise other service staff and ensure they are complying with their job descriptions and performing to their fullest during the shift.

 

7)    May be asked from time-to-time to train new service staff.

Qualifications

  • Previous bartending and or serving experience and/or certification required;

 

  • Integrity, maturity, good interpersonal skills and an ability to work as part of a team are essential;

 

  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset;

 

  • Familiarity with the McGill environment is essential.
