Job Description
We are hiring an experienced communications and marketing staff person to assist us in growing and meeting our mission needs through creative storytelling and on-the-ground outreach. This job will be hosted by The Ember Alliance (TEA), a nonprofit organization and member of the Fireshed that also hosts the NCFC coordinator. This position reports to the NCFC Coordinator. Position is a 40 hour/week, full-time position, with 75% (30 hours/week) working on NCFC communications and duties and 25% (10 hours/week) on communications for The Ember Alliance.
Essential Job Functions for NCFC work
- Lead the development and implementation of marketing and communications strategies, and support community engagement activities using creative and engaging storytelling
- Co-lead the Fireshed’s Community Engagement & Outreach (CEO) Committee
- In partnership with community-connected partners, help to coordinate and lead in-person and virtual outreach events throughout the Fireshed boundary
- Develop and manage comprehensive marketing calendars
- Manage Fireshed social media & monthly e-newsletter
- Lead content development, design, and management of the Fireshed website
- Collaborate with Fireshed Coordinator and members to develop marketing materials
- Media relations – develop relationships with journalists and pitch stories; act as a Fireshed spokesperson when needed
- Use photography and videography to share and promote Fireshed members’ work on the ground
NCFC Job Details - Main functions are Community Engagement & Outreach and Marketing and Communications
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Co-lead the Fireshed’s Community Engagement & Outreach (CEO) Committee
- Assist Fireshed Coordinator and Fireshed members in organizing and promoting community engagement/outreach events to help ensure targeted attendance and participation
- Attend and /or support partner outreach and events across the Fireshed
- Represent the Fireshed at events; identify new opportunities for the Fireshed to promote its mission at outreach events within the Fireshed boundaries
- Track and update Fireshed outreach materials (booth, flyers, brochure, etc.)
- Track metrics for outreach and engagement
- Media relations to share Fireshed updates/successes
- Assist, when needed and as available, with outreach strategies of the many coalitions and organizations working to build awareness and increase community readiness across the Fireshed.
Marketing & Communications
- Work with staff and CEO Committee to develop key messaging for NCFC and for key program areas
- Develop marketing plan that helps Fireshed achieve its strategic goals
- Lead writing, designing, and editing content for the Fireshed website and email marketing efforts, including a monthly newsletter
- Manage and design/edit print materials (brochure, annual report, flyers)
- Drive strategy to increase daily engagement on Fireshed social media (X, Facebook & Instagram)
- Maintain communications editorial calendar for web, email and social media
- Monitor, report and present on online engagement analytics (web, email, social media) to optimize content and messaging
TEA Job Details
25% of this job will be to support communications for The Ember Alliance. This is to extend the funding for the communications position and create a matching funds opportunity. The NCFC coordinator will ensure this split position is maintained with good boundaries and expectations. The job duties will be similar and require the same skill set as the NCFC work. This position will be the program lead and delegate tasks to the existing marketing team of other TEA staff:
- Establish a Strong Foundation: A dedicated professional would help create an initial framework for our communications strategy, ensuring all future efforts are built on solid ground.
- Enhance Coordination: Placing the communication professional at TEA will help to unify efforts among existing team members, ensuring consistent messaging and strategic alignment across all communications.
- Direct the writing, designing, and editing of content for TEA's website and email marketing efforts, including a monthly newsletter
- Manage and/or design/edit print materials (brochure, annual report, flyers)
- Monitor, report and present on online engagement analytics (web, email, social media) to optimize content and messaging
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- 3-5 years of professional communications, community engagement and/or marketing experience
- Proven track record of developing social media and website content
- Strong writing and copy-editing skills
- Demonstrable work-related proficiency with managing social media (X, Facebook and Instagram)
- Experience managing a website using Wordpress
- Strong project management skills and ability to effectively multitask
- Must enjoy working and communicating with a diverse range of partners and members of the public
- Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Having knowledge, understanding, and passion for forest and fire ecology and environmental work is an asset
- 5+ years of professional communications and marketing experience in a nonprofit setting, with communications/marketing being the primary role
- Strategic thinker with ability to develop messaging/content/design that furthers the Fireshed mission
- Proven ability in implementing marketing and communications strategic plans
- Proven results in managing social media platforms (Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram, etc.) to engage a diverse audience
- Experience using Arc GIS, including creating and managing StoryMaps
- Self-starter who loves working on teams and can excel at working independently
- Ability to develop graphic designs using available design software such as Canva or similar
- Excellent verbal, written, and proofreading/editorial skills and comfort with public speaking
- Ability and interest to communicate with diverse audiences
- Very high attention to detail
- Ability to manage time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results

Schedule Requirements:
This is an at-will position. The average work week is 40 hours, but the schedule may vary depending on project needs.
Flexible work schedules will be considered to accommodate family or other commitments.
Location:
The Ember Alliance is headquartered in Fort Collins, CO. Potential candidate may work remotely, but must be able to attend meetings in the Northern Colorado Fireshed Collaborative geography in-person as scheduled. Must be within reasonable driving distance of these meetings.
Pay and Benefits
Pay is $34 hourly with annualized salary at $70,720.
Paid time off, paid holidays, paid sick leave, paid family leave, unpaid family leave, and leave without pay benefits are provided. A jury duty policy is also in place for employer. Employer-sponsored health, vision, dental care coverage, life insurance, long-term disability, is available as soon as employment begins. Employer-matched retirement plan is available 3 months after employment begins and is immediately vested.
