Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity 

Collection development in academic libraries provide challenges and opportunities for someone passionate about the role of connecting users with information content.  Publishing models are dynamic and evolving in a complex environment requiring an innovative and enquiring approach.

As one of two Scholarly Content Advisers, you will be responsible for coordinating the life-cycle of the library’s physical and electronic resources.  Working with a close-knit team your experience in acquisitions or metadata workflows will ensure accessible and discoverable  electronic resources and high-quality metadata in our content discovery platform.  Your excellent data analysis skills will support budget management, forecasts, and usage statistics.  In collaboration with your colleagues you will develop and implement effective efficient workflows using a continuous improvement approach. Communication skills will be an asset as this role liaises with  the wider University community and external vendors about our scholarly collections.

The Collection Development and Access teams acquire, organise and manage our library collections in all formats.  The teams work collaboratively to ensure efficient access to quality information content to meet the research and learning needs of the university.  Functional units within the team include Scholarly Content, Course Reading Lists and Interloans, Collection Operations and Fulfilment, and the Print and Bindery service.

This role includes:

·         Enabling content provided through the Library’s library management system

·         Investigating and resolving problems relating to access to content

·         Liaising with publishers and suppliers

·         Assisting with task allocation and monitoring workflows with the team

Degree in a library and information related or equivalent discipline  

You will operate with energy and passion, demonstrate a collaborative approach to work well with others, and model best practice principles and behaviours.  

 

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake  | Important Skills

  • Experience with cataloguing electronic resources and metadata management including administration, maintenance, troubleshooting and tracking of electronic resources.
  • Knowledge of cataloguing standards and bibliographic utilities. 
  • Knowledge of discovery tools, authentication tools, COUNTER and SUSHI.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills as well as attention to detail
  • Data analysis skills and demonstrated experience with associated tools, methods, and applications such as Excel, and Access. 
  • Understanding and knowledge of changes occurring within scholarly publishing.
